Crazy Mama

Great song!

But who is/was crazy mama?

What is the song about?

Who was her ball and chain?

Or was sha a sado-maso queen with a "true" ball and chain?

And, besides, very fresh and original guitar overdubs by Keith! Sounds like Ronnie!

Was focusing again on Keith's guitar parts.

The lead does not have one of his trademark liks. Not one. That is why I always believed it was RW on quitar. But the same is for wild horses. I bet I was not the only one to think it was MT. The man sure can craft some great music!

Probably about BIANCA I would assume, it was around that time period... I mean, who is RESPECTABLE, LUXURY, IF YOU CAN'T ROCK ME, and SOME GIRLS about?? they were splitting up in 76/77 weren't they/somewhere around there......

liddas - CRAZY not CarZY, easy to fix.....

Crazy Mama = Bianca? - nope, never. not in my book anyway.

Gazza recently wrote, what he thinks about, how much of Micks personal views of real persons he puts into songs - that was a good read. dunno where to find it tho'.

my, thats a clogged sentence - but you get the drift I hope

I love when this one starts on Black and Blue. The punch, the swaggering, the riffing. It's like 'now we're gonna pull all the stops'. Craaaaazy.

sorry, guys (and girls of course!) but i donĀ“t like Carzy Mama! Usually i prefer the rockers over the slowlier stones songs, but not in this case. For me Carzy Mama and Fool to Cry are the weakest tracks on BB.

Wild horses already discussed here.

On the other hand if you listen carefully to the Crazy Mama lead, there are bits that sound 100% ronnie, and it was keith!

>> there are bits that sound 100% Ronnie, and it was Keith <<

you know me, liddas: i'm delighted if it's Keith, but someone has to ask: how do you know?
i know the notes on the cover list no Ronnie on Crazy Mama, but the notes may be wrong - it wouldn't be the first time

meanwhile, here's a detailed discussion of who plays what on Wild Horses: [www.iorr.org]
(sorry, there's some major BS on that thread as well - the detailed discussion of Wild Horses is good though)

You listen to the bits at 1.40 and 2.08 and tell me its not Keith!!!

well of course Keith's playing beautifully loud & clear on Crazy Mama; that was never in question!
what i'm asking is how you know the parts that sound like Ronnie are not Ronnie.

I thought MJ played guitar on it. To me.....it's got Mick and Ronnie written all over it.

I meant, follow the lead.

There are at least 4 guitars recorded. 2 rythm by MJ and Keith and the lead overdub, Keith again. Then there is one more (one or two guitars?) overdubbed guitar part at 2.20. That could be anyone (Keith or Ronnie). I argue it was Keith because otherwhise we would have a quote by Ronnie that it was him (he never misses pointing out who plays what!)

smile: yeah, you're right. he was new then, but it does seem like we would've heard about it in the meantime
if they'd left him off the credits. thanks for clarifying; have some popcorn & swing on!

sssoul, I think the one or two live versions I've heard from the late 90s sound like its keith playing the part I think liddas is talking about..of course, even if i'm right, it doesn't answer the question of who played on the studio version...still, right now, i'm prepared to think liddas has a point....unfortunately, i no longer own a copy of black and blue, so i can't offer a real opinion...

thanks texas fan - the part that sounds most Ronnie-esque to me on Crazy Mama is that lovely cantering riff -
at the Double Door gig in 97 Ronnie played it. but i agree that that doesn't mean anything
about who played it in the studio. if it's Keith sounding very Ronnie-esque, that's fine with me!

now I wanna know for sure.

in Latin America sweethearts often call each other pappi or mammita
Mick did parodies on that culture in other songs too, Hey negrita, down in the hole, fool to cry

Re: Crazy Mama

well, that's not purely a Latin American phenomenon; anyway it's not the "mama" part
that leads me to feel this number isn't one of the Glimmer Twins' strictly autobiographical works.
i can't say i've ever gotten interested in this lyric, though - the track just sounds so freakin fine,
it can be "about" whoever/no one and that's all right with me
