And to celebrate the Italian Corriere della Sera publishes a nice slideshow dedicated to the Stones. Some new pics (for me at least)

Actually the album was such a huge success, that it has been downhill ever since, at least as far as their home country is concerned .... With it 12 weeks at the top of the charts and 800 000 sold copies it still their best charted and most sold studio album in UK. By comparison, such landmark albums like BEGGARS BANQUET and SOME GIRLS sold about a fourth of it each - 200 000 sales are rather avarage for a Stones album. IT*S ONLY ROCK'N'ROLL, an album having its 40th Anniversary, sold only a bit more than tenth of their debut ten years earlier (90 000 copies).
Of course, the competition was not such big in 1964, but that shouldn't hide the fact that the album THE ROLLING STONES was a huge thing in England back then.
