Quotedeardoctortake1 don't forget the acoustic overdub on the bootleg b/w video and also, I believe Brian's guitar is completely off, and he barely is strumming his guitar I don't hear any of Brian other than No Expectations, sorry His guitar can't be completely off as it is more audible on the bootleg recordings. I'll post the outtake versions of Parachute Wom

Anyone willing to upload Zurich and Milan from the 1967 European tour? I'm aware that they aren't good quality as I had them before, but i've lost my copies of them and I need those recordings to keep my 1967 archives intact.

I recall that a member here managed to id one of the jams on the original VGP release, I also recall he did his own remastering job and posted it, perhaps the boot you have found nabbed his? It sounded less hissy etc.

Some youtube clips showing mellotrons being played with the aforementioned sounds. These clips feature the later MKIV model... mandolin: flute:

QuoteCindyC Keith's 65th birthday is coming up soon, so I think he deserves another photo. Or a nice one of him and Patti since it's also their 25th wedding anniversary. Although I'm biased towards there being an old Brian era photo up there, the above are sweet and valid reasons to have a Keith or Keith & Patti pic.

QuoteMunichhilton Its sounds similar on Jigsaw. I guess I always thought they were flutes? They're not? Well technically it isn't a flute, but it is a flute recording played on the mellotron.

I recreated the parts with M-tron samples. The first excerpt you hear is the stones with no additions by me.

There is ongoing debate as to what instruments were used on Beggars Banquet, in particular the whining sound on Jigsaw Puzzle. As you will hear, this was recorded using a MKII Mellotron using the flute sound. Another lesser known use of the mellotron on the album is the mandolin part on Factory Girl. This features use of the MKII's mandolin sound as previously heard on Citadel from 1967.

Quoteloog droog QuoteRuby Friday Unlike the Beatles how used Abbey Road "all the time" apart from Twickenham once or twice. I think they did "Baby You're a Rich Man" at Olympic. They also used others like Trident, regent sound etc etc.

Quotecc terrific work! so, this was brian's last live performance, right? and, along with the NME Pollwinners Concert, the only one since the '67 tour--where he played a real variety instruments. Did he even play much guitar on that tour? Yeah he's quite loud on some of the 67 bootlegs as is Keith of course. His playing sounds much like his live 65/66 playing. In the footage

I think my clips show that what Brian played just doesn't stand out in any way. It's slightly audible when you know what to listen for though. Seems to me what he plays is very much of a 'that'll do' nature, easy to play but, not really needed other than to, at best, slightly beef the sound up. Throw in the low mixing, bass, piano, drums etc and what Brian plays all,

Brian is shown using a Gibson ES-330TD for the rehearsals, but he used his 1968(56 reissue) gold top and non reverse Firebird for the actual filming.

Over the years there's been some posts mentioning that Brian's guitar may have been, aside from No Expectations, turned off during the Rock & Roll Circus filming. This isn't true! Through careful OCD analysis of both the official DVD,CD and bootleg recordings such as the alternative versions of Parachute Woman and YCAGWYW I managed to work out what Brian played. I beli

Quoteneptune Perhaps the accordion player has never been named because BSG was not a popular hit. Mick Jagger's two comments about the song are all the info we have. There are a lot of Stones songs that have a similar lack of info about who played what, so just because Brian wasn't 'named' the accordion player, doesn't mean he didn't play it. In many songs from

Quotesteffiestones Yes, this pic relates to the circus because all the pics comes from the r&r circus press pack. Interesting, I wonder if it was taken at the hotel they rehearsed in!? Does the press pack credit the photographer?

If they hadn't mixed Brian so far down the sound would have been fuller on the dvd/cd. I bet they didn't sound as weak in person as they do on the released stuff. Sorry, but as I said before, Brian plays really simple parts, but there's nothing wrong in what he plays as such. I'm a bit puzzled as to why they felt the need to have him so low in the mix. All these tales

There is a harpsichord in there, it comes in during the first chorus and then does some subtle notes during the end of verses etc. As far as I am aware the accordian player has never been named by any of the band or Oldham. We assume it's Brian, but apparently someone contacted ABKCO and they were told the session log mentions someone else. It's always possible that the player was

Quotecc it had better--it's keith playing! HM, did he play that through one of the Vox solid state amps? And with a Les Paul, you reckon? Noone knows for certain, but I can get rather close with my les paul custom in to my vox supreme. Taking in to account what the the mic, mixing board etc etc and of course keth playing would add to the sound, I'm pretty sure that it was that se

Quoteerussell Do what I can to help. Can't give you an exact date, but it is definitely 1968. It was before the rock n roll circus which was December 1968. If I run across anything that helps me with the exact date I'll post it. Hi there, thanks for the reply. Seems you were around to shoot them at their homes circa October - November 1968. You also shot them rehearsing at their b

Quotedeardoctortake1 Other than No Expectations, Brian's guitar is OFF. It's all Keith Sorry, but you are totally wrong! Brian's guitar is audible on both the official dvd and bootleg. It is mixed way down on the offical dvd, but on the bootleg it is still quiet, but louder than the official dvd release. The alternative Parachute Woman has Brian's guitar louder th

Quoteshadooby Is it true Brian's guitar wasn't even plugged in yet he was too far gone to notice? That is most definitely not true! Brain's guitar can be heard very slightly on JJF, PW and YCAGWYW on the official release. Obviously it's very clear on No Expectations. The soundtrack to the black & white bootleg(alternate PW and 2 versions of YCAGWYW) has his guita
