I believe the place was just a ruin back in 68, hence why they were able to light a fire inside it. I'm sure Bill mentions this in Stone Alone, them lighting a fire that is.

Brian most certainly was a talented musician! I'll single out one of his great performances, the often cited I Wanna Be Your Man solo. In the context of the times, the music of 1963, it is a truly inspired, raucous, wonderful piece of slide playing, simple, energetic and completely spot on! It sounds like something Jeff Beck would have played circa 1966 or so. There's l

Quoteschillid Odd... you don't look bluish. The blue marks are not stains on Keith's clothes! They are stains on the PHOTOGRAPH! The entire photo is sepia toned folks. Anything that was blue in the original scene would have been reproduced in sepia tones... I pointed that out a week ago.

QuoteMathijs The last time I was in Denmark Street was some 5 years ago, and I remember that back then that in the basement there was this bookshop, and not yet a guitar shop. It's about five doors left of Vintage and Rare isn't? And was the Regent Sound studio in the basement or ground floor? Mathijs Ah the old Helter Skelter book shop! I'm not sure on what floor the

Mathijs there's a book/sheet music store which also sells some guitars next door or a couple of doors down from Regent Sound. Perhaps you're getting them mixed up? I was in Regent Sound recently, they have a 4 track machine which was supposedly used in the studio at some point on display with photos of the Stones recording there. I didn't venture down to their basement so p

Quoteneptune How is it silly? That clip on One Plus One is the ONLY video footage of Brian Jones working with the Stones in the studio. For fans of the 1960's Stones, this is gold. The clip, in my humble opinion, reveals some things about Brian like how he interacted with the others in the studio, how coherent he was at that time, and how he was still able to contribute meaningfully to ma

Quoteozziestone "Bluesy Chord" my arse but on seperate topic anyone notice the way jagger plays barre chords? i.e doesnt barre the fret but uses index figer on the B string. I have noticed that before-means he doesn't strike the top or bottom E strings, thus leaving out the root note He doesn't fret the B string notes on all of the chords and he does let the high E and B str

Quotetomk The Stones actually got to that Magic Alex character before the Beatles did. He knew John Dunbar who introduced them to the Stones and then he supposedly did a light show for the '67 tour of Europe. After that he was introduced to Lennon and the gang. A sign of what was to come when he moved on to The Beatles... If I remember right Bill's Stone Alone mentions that Ale

QuoteMathijs I refered to the (apperently) outtakes where Mick shows the band the song on his own. On this ballad version it sounds like he plays open E -he seems to fret only the E and A fret on the 12th, 10th and 5th fret. On this version Jagger also plays the A chord in the turn-around. I have listened again and again to this tape as it was my introduction to open E some 2o years ago. Th

Yeah, but the arrangements of the demo and marriannes version are rather different to the later stones version. McCartney possibly had the bare bones idea for Yesterday as early as January 1964 with the song eventually being released on the album Help in August 65... The stones recorded their ATGB in October 65. So, Lennon probably wasn't talking crap with regards to ATGB being infl

Does the stones recording pre date Yesterday? This thread is a fuss about nothing, but in reply to posts by Mathijs and Neptune... Mick is tuned to standard tuning. He plays standard bar chords, but allows the open high B and E strings(sometimes justr the high E) to ring out, Brian is doing the same thing. Mick doesn't play the A blues lick chord thing at any time, that lick doesn't get played until Brian plays it. Brian pla

QuoteSleepy City QuoteJJHMick The Beatles weren't first using the Sitar, the Byrds (or the Hollies?) were. I believe it was actually Jeff Beck in The Yardbirds. Jeff didn't play sitar, but they did attempt to get a sitarist included on HFOS, but it didn't work out so well so Jeff used his fuzz box instead.

Something to take note of... We don't hear Brian's acoustic during the majority of the film because we are not hearing what is being recorded. What we hear is via the film crews mic's, thus you wouldn't hear Brian's acoustic when the full band is playing in the same room. We can't tell whether or not Brian is being recorded once they move on from the initial Mic
