It looks like the official album.

[www.nzentgraf.de] :

Finally out, for the first time on CD, is Billy Preston's live album recorded at his supporting gigs for the Stones 1973 European Tour. And what a surprise: If you compare the music to your old scratchy vinyl version you won't find many similarities. The folks at A&M used new tracks and takes for all songs bar one (The Bus). Maybe they lost most of the original tapes, which could be the reason why we waited so long for this "re-release". Highly recommended, because in 1973 Billy's guitarist, Mick Taylor, was even better than usual.

Japanese A&M has put out a Limited Edition CD that combines the original 1974 vinyl-album with the Japanese CD-edition from 2002, which used totally different songs and takes (with exception of The Bus).

In 1973 Billy Preston went on tour through Europe with The Rolling Stones as their guest keyboard player. At the same time he also served as their opening act with his own band (consisting of fellow keyboard men Hubert Heard and Kenneth Lupper and drummer Manuel Kellough, plus Rolling Stone Mick Taylor on guitar). His set was recorded, and a live album was produced - Live European Tour came out in 1974. On it he performed a selection of his own songs (including both instrumentals "Outa-Space" and "Space Race"), a number of Beatles tunes ("Day Tripper", "Let It Be" and "Get Back"), and the Ray Charles hit "Let's Go Get Stoned". In fact three of these covers ("Let It Be", "Get Back" and "Let's Go Get Stoned") he knew well as had appeared on the original recordings as a session musician.

The album came together perfectly to showcase the high energy and character of Billy Preston's music - to have such brilliant, funky music before the Stones even hit the stage, these must have been some amazing concerts!

In 2003 a new version of the album was released on CD. It featured a slightly different track list (including his own "That's The Way God Planned It" and a Hammond organ arrangement of "Amazing Grace"), and in fact all the songs were different versions to those on the original LP. Rather than try to decide which edition is better, I have put them both together as one double album.

This disc was picked up on the occasion of Billy Preston benefits in the first part of the European tour of the Rolling Stones in 1973.
Billy occurred before the Stones on all dates of the tour, from 1 to 19 September in Vienna Berlin October. It is October 9 in Essen Mick Taylor joined Billy on stage training for the first time. He then replayed with him several times but not always and it is not possible to date to know exactly what Mick Taylor concerts participated. The Live European Tour comes in several versions: - the original LP released in 1974 with 9 titles - published a CD pressing in Japan in 2002 with 9 titles, including 8 different LP original - the beautiful Japanese SHMCD published in 2008 and comprising 18 titles or the entire contents of the previous 2 releases. It is on this issue that we're dealing with today. The songs from the original LP are identified as corresponding to the British version (UK) album and appear behind the songs from the first edition Japanese CD-end 2002 here oddly identified as the US version of the album ... It is common knowledge that the concert on 11 October in Essen was recorded as a basis 1974b appeared in live but it appears that the CD reissues contain pieces and different versions of those of the original LP. Knowing that the Stones gave only a single representation in Essen on October 11, is the concert of 9 or 10 in Essen was also recorded without the info being published or pieces from another location. As the Rolling Stones recorded their concerts in Rotterdam October 13 and 17 October in Brussels, we can extrapolate that Billy might have taken advantage of the hardware set up for Stones also registering for its own benefits, but the mystery remains, the booklet provides no information on the origin of the pieces. In the absence of certainty about their origin, let's look at the pieces themselves. Before playing with the Stones, Billy Preston had a successful career to his credit: a solo discography and especially collaborations with other greats including the Beatles and Ray Charles. The setlist of its services and the album reflects the all the way. Accompanied by his "God Squad", namely other 2 keyboards and a drummer, Billy is also supported here by Mick Taylor in shape for what is his last major tour in the Rolling Stones. In the table below are all tracks of the CD. Greens pieces are exclusive of one or the other version, the piece in red, The Bus is the only piece from the same concert to feature in the 2 versions of the live but with a sound and a slightly different mix. All other songs are different, and allow to feel the spontaneous side of the performance of the band at the time.
