An excellent read - Journey Through America/The Stones Touring Party.
I have mislaid my copy.Unless I've dreamt this, was there some reference to a musician who "was out to get Keith"
Anybody out there know who it was?

Haven't read or owned a copy of STP for years...but from memory there was a lot sensationalist crap in it. It's not that there wasn't some truth in the crazy stories...it's just that the the other 99% of what happened on the tour wasn't mentioned much ;^)

I'm reading it at the moment.
I found a nice uk first edition in an antiques shop for £4.
Anybody know if it's worth anything?

The thing for me is that I've read the book 4 times and each time I read it, I find that Flet Chippo's is much much better. With Flippo, there is actual interaction with the Stones where it seems to me like Greenfield was sort of watching the whole thing on TV..

I agree completely. Also, Greenfield was M.I.A. Nashville - New York, relying on Chip, Marshall (Von) Chess, Peter Rudge, and other persons.

I always thought it's a bit overrated.

nicely put, and my sentiments exactly. Stanley Booth and Chet Flippo had miles more access to the artists,
no doubt because they had a good rapport with them. Greenfiel seems to have had more rapport with the other hangers-on.
it's an okay read, though, and the stories of the hangers-on are part of what a tour involves.

Greenfield was also kicked off the tour at mid-point (after Nashville), not to rejoin until NYC on assignment for Rolling Stone. His DC to Pittsburgh tales are thus all second-hand.

Some of the stuff he reported is actually fiction. Despite everything, it's still the best account of the tour.

Stephen Stills.

Oh, thanks, but why Stephen Stills? Was it:
1. Drugs
2. Drugs
3. Drugs
4. He wanted to join the Stones but they took MT instead
5. Keith made a joke about Stills receeeding hairline
