Linda Ronstadt Covering "Tumbling Dice"

I've got a great live recording of her covering this -- don't remember where I got it or when it's from.

I have a suspicion that Waddy Wachtel is playing guitar on it.

I'll upload it and post it to "Hot Stuff" if anyone's interested, UNLESS I find it's from an official release.

Anyone know? Did she release this on a live album? A concert broadcast, maybe?

I'd love to share it, if it's kosher to do so.

Remember the film "FM?"

I'm almost certain Linda did TD on that film.
I know Waddy can be seen in the band.
I think I even still have the soundtrack album.
If I get some time this evening, I'll look for it
and post what I find.

Here's the film I'm talking about:

And I do still have the soundtrack album from 1978.

Tracklist:
Steely Dan - FM (title song)
Bob Seger
& The Silver Bullet Band - Night Moves
Steve Miller - Fly Like an Eagle
Foreigner - Cold as Ice
Tom Petty
& The Heartbreakers - Breakdown
Randy Meisner - Bad Man
LINDA RONSTADT - TUMBLING DICE
Linda Ronstadt - Poor Poor Pitiful Me
Jimmy Buffett - Livingston Saturday Night
Dan Fogelberg -There's a Place in the World For a Gambler
Billy Joel - Just the Way You Are
Eagles - Life in the Fast Lane
Steely Dan - Do It Again
Boz Scaggs - Lido Shuffle
Boston - More Than a Feeling
Doobie Brothers - It Keeps You Runnin'
James Taylor - Your Smiling Face
Joe Walsh - Life's Been Good
Queen - We Will Rock You
Steely Dan - FM-reprise

I remember liking this film as a seventeen year-old
back in '78. A couple of years ago, I watched it again on television and could not sit through it.
Rather bad acting, I thought, and a corny storyline,
but I could never get tired of watching Linda!
Interesting, she's the only performer with more than one song.

<<Linda Ronstadt - Poor Poor Pitiful Me>>

Is it the Warren Zevon song she's covering here?

Yeah he was...love his music...he's greatly missed.

And Mr. Grove, if you haven't heard this one before, Warren doing Start Me Up/Poor Poor Pitiful Me from San Francisco 1985: [www.sendspace.com]

Yeah, she introduces the band on the "FM" soundtrack. Waddy is in there, as is Peter Asher (of Peter and Gordon fame). He was Linda's producer.

The version of PPPM on the "FM" soundtrack is live also.

Many years ago (the 70s) I saw Neil Young in concert.
I remember some girl singer opening for him...
But it wasn't until years later that someone told me that it had been Linda Rondstadt.

I kinda wish that I'd been paying more attention to the show before Neil came on. We musta been too busy smoking dope...

Sohoe,

I agree. "Poor Poor Pitiful Me". The lyric, "I laid my head by the railroad tracks" is killer. Heatwave, although commercial, another fav of LR is a great rendition.

I would love to have the boot that exists from Tucson, Az. 7/21/78...Linda appeared on stage w/the Stones to sing Tumbling Dice...hell, I would even be satisfied with this single cut from the show....I was there & have great memories of this rare indoor show from the 78 tour....peter.....pstupar@aol.com

It certainly would be nice if a good copy of the live duet (Tucson, 21st of July 1978) would show up. As far as I know Linda Ronstadt is hardly audible. Was not there a problem with her mike? Anyone has a better recording?
Alex.
