maybe this can help, it is from All Music Guide
Song Review by Denise Sullivan
The American psycho as portrayed in Warren Zevon's "Excitable Boy," the title track from his 1978 breakthrough album, is one of his patented grisly stories set to a jaunty little pop tune. Admittedly, Linda Ronstadt's and Jennifer Warnes' "woo-ah-ooing" all over the place tempers the blow, but few aside from Zevon could've gotten over the line, "And he raped her and killed her, then he took her home" without committing career suicide. Thats OK, Zevon was on a real-life path toward self-destruction. Around the time of the album's release, he told his friend Paul Nelson in the Rolling Stone interview, "I thought my days were numbered in fractions." Luckily, they weren't, and "Excitable Boy" lives on as a classic album track from late-'70s FM radio.
