George Harrison was the most talented Beatle
Posted by: out of my head ()

Yes, Lennon-McCartney wrote some good songs, but I think that George Harrison was the most versatile of the four. I was listening to the Harrison penned "Run So Far" from Eric Clapton's "Journeyman" a while ago and it reminded me of many past Harrison songs. His songs all had that familiar sound that was distinctly his, yet they all sounded different. I think he was a better musician and songwriter than he was ever given credit for.

Just for the record. This is not Stones-related at all. I will soon start deleting many new not stones-related posts simply because the policy is to have mostly Stones-related posts on IORR Tell Me and certainly not posts like this.

Sorry BV. I don't post in about three weeks and then when I do I end up getting reprimanded. Sorry about that. Won't happen again.

YOu could make it Stones related by saying something like: Just as Bill Wyman was the most talented Stone, George Harrison was the most talented Beatle.

or you could say that John Lennon had a hair cut closest in style to that of Mick Jaggers.....(lol)

>George Harrison was the most talented Beatle.

No he wasn't.

And speaking of talented Stones, my money would go to either Brian or MT as the most musically talented Stones' that ever were.

Have you ever lent somebody $20 and never seen them again? It was probably worth it.

The most musically talented "member" (although a quasi-member) of the Stones was Nicky Hopkins. A genius, pure and simple.

Yes, George definitely was...

He had the unenviable problem of carrying those lackluster talents like John Lennon and Paul McCartney...

"It's just that demon life has got me in it's sway..."

This is off topic, but an interesting statement. The songs speak for themselves:

Something
Here Comes The Sun
While My Guitar Gently Weeps

These songs are the best Beatles-songs I know, and therefore the conclusion is simple: YES!

John Lennon was talanted in an amateurish way, very simple riffs, solos and chords, melodies etc. Nice rythm. Paul was the most talanted I think. George maybe an equal but not better. Or maybe he was in a way. Hard to tell. Mcca was a better songwriter during his Beatle-years. Lennon was the best maybe. I dunno. And George looked like Keith.

No, I think it would be John Lennon in the early days. But he's wrote good songs, yes. He's definetly second.

How are you defining 'talented'?
In what area specifically?

Harrison, was probably a more gifted guitar player,
than either McCartney or Lennon,
but showman?...no
songwriter? no....though his songwriting was stifled within the group, and was only aloud to shine briefly.

Lennon, SIMPLE melodies??? (Not a Second Time... Strawberry Fields... Sexy Sadie... Dig a Poney... Julia... Revolution...) Just take a closer look at those chord progressions.

Anyway, my favourite Harrison at the moment, funnily, is polarised between the fantastic rockabilly performer of the BBC sessions (Glad All Over... Nothing's Shaking but the Leaves on the Trees...) and some of those lush and mysterious, lesser known tracks from All Things Must Pass (Let it Down... I Dig Love... Wah-Wah...).

However brilliant Lennon and McCartney were, little George did pushed them beyond and kicked them in the butt at some point, and, no matter what happened in the end, this was great anyway.
And he had also a fine, cynical sense of humour!

George Harrison is certainly my favorite Beatle, but it is difficult to compare anyone to the enormous talents of Lennon and McCartney. I love all of George's work....even the tedious stuff such as Extra Texture.

I agree with BV by saying that is a Stone board, although I think in this case it's a bit overdoing.

Beatles or other band that's started in the same time the Stones started is related.

I suppose (hope) not all members on this board are playing Stones records all day, and nothing else then that.

So "out of my head" was probably listen to some Beatle records and discovered, George doesn't play bad.

Allthough I think Paul is better, ever listen to his first solo album ?
He played all the instruments on that.

Excellent songs, my dandy, powder-pushing friend. I really became a fan of George's when I saw the movie "Concert For Bangladesh" at a movie theater late late show.

Let's not also forget:

Beware Of Darkness,
My Sweet Lord,
What Is Life,
Norweigan Wood,

and the quirky, catchy, "Piggies"

..."clutching forks and knives,
to eat their bacon!"

Didn't George write that one? Off the Revolver album (I think)

Definitely agree that GH was the most talented. His Beatles songs are some of their best and his solo career was also the best IMHO.

Most talented Beatle was John Lennon and the reason is very simple
Talent is not musical virtuosism talent is inside the heart.
