I discovered some more. I knew I had it somewhere written down. It's from way back in time when I had no lyric books whatsoever and I tried to figure out the lyrics by myself. That's what I got for 19th Nervous Breakdown:
The song goes: "You're the kind of person you meet at certain dismal dull affairs.."
I got:"You're the kindest person, you're neat it's certain.." which made perfect sense to me..
The next one is really ridiculous: It's "Hand of Fate":
The song goes: "The hand of fate is on my now.."
I heard: " The hand of fate is on an owl.........!!!"
Let's take "Sympathy for the Devil": Song goes: " But what's puzzling you..."
I got : "What's that fuzz(or buzz) in you.." I must have been influenced from "Jesus Christ Superstar", you know "..what's that buzz tell me what's happening, what's that buzz..."
"No Expectations": Song goes: " Your heart is like a diamond.."
I got: " You're hard just like a diamond.."
"Shine a Light": Song goes: " Saw you stretched out in room ten-o-nine.."
I got: "..On your stretcher, it's noon 10:09.."
And the last one: "Mother's little helper"
Song goes: " What a drag it is getting old.."
I got: " What a tragedy getting on..."
I was 13 years old...Funny thread!!

Also from Rocks Off:
Is he checking out the shore?

I was making love last night
Tooey and some friends of mine
I can feel you standing still
I'm zipping through the days that lie in speed
Look in for size n find your @#$%& feet

Before the internet I had the dumbest lyrics figured out,
even now, I listened to these songs so many times with the
wrong lyrics that I still end up singing them.

I used to think the lyrics to the "shoup Shoup" song were : "If you wanna know if he loves you so its in his hips". What was really funny was my freinds reaction to me singing that. It still makes me laught when I think of that

When Mixed Emotions first came out I thought it was Mick's Emotions, as though he's referring to himself in the 3rd person.

"You´re not the only shit adrift on this ocean"....

I'm such a dumb-ass!smiling smiley

The Freebird thread last week motivated me to dust off some Lynyrd Skynyrd and in doing so stumbled across this soon to be classic.

From That Smell: “Can’t speak a word when you’re full of ‘ludes”.

I’ve always thought it was “Can’t speak a word when you’re full of balloons”. Even though it didn’t make sense, I figured that “balloons” was a metaphor for being high on H (Yo! That’s what we call it on the street.), derived from either the way it’s transported by “mules” or even that’s how people who are high on it describe the way their mouth feels when they are on it.

John Prine tells the story of the drunk lady that approached his stage one night and insited on hearing the song about the enchilada. John insisted there are no references to Mexicam food in his music but she insisted so he asked her to sing it. She kicks in with a slurred version of "it's a half an enchilada". John seeing her confusion sings "it's a half an inch of water, and you think your going to drown".

Help me here on this one. The song "Don't bring me down" at the end of singing that bit says what sounds like and is often interprited in NA to be Bruuuuuuce (the name Bruce) I reviewed the liner notes years ago and the word is Grooooooose. I know the band was Europian, does Grooooooose mean something?

You know Don Henley's Boys of Summer....

for years I thought it was the poisoned summer - it wasn't until I got married and was singing it one day that my wife said, what the heck did you just sing?! How said is that? Always thought it didn't make sense LOL

And, SF37, I was also one who thought it was 400 children, and was like damn that's a lotta mouths to feed.

That's much funnier than how we used to sing it. We just said "one ton tomata, i'll eat a one ton tomata, one ton tomaaaaaaata, i'll eat a one ton tomata"

Rocks Off was a mystery to me for years: I thought the words were:

"I'm always hearing horses in the street" - don't know why, but I still hear it that way even now I know better

and as for the dancer friend, always heard that as:

"I was making love last night with a distant friend of mine". Think I thought it was a polite way to describe a one-night stand, or maybe I just didn't think about the line at all.

I do think Exile must be the richest album for misheard or mistaken lyrics ever - unless anyone knows otherwise?

I was so glad when I got a PC and could actually look up lyrics to songs . I can't recall how many times I said " Is that what they said ? "

It all makes sense now !!

for about 20 yrs I thought Heaven was saying "sex is for friends" when he sings "senses be praised". It worked for me. But I agree that lots of times MJ is impossible to understand so there probably are lots I still have wrong
