Stanley can't keep from self-aggrandisement, even in his own wife's obituary.

I wonder if this was the same woman referenced in his book on the Stones.

Nope, this woman wasn't the "Christopher" referenced in the book. That was a nickname for Christine, if I recall, and also Diann Blakely was about 12 years old in 1969.

"Nice bit of silk, Em."

This doesn't appear to be her obituary. Plus I don't see any self-aggrandizing, other than that he mentions Keith. Am I missing something? confused smiley

I was trying to find out what Mr. Booth has been up to and if he had any work about to be published, thats how I found this post the link is to.

it was written around the time Keith's 'Life' was published.

then subsequently, his wife, Ms. Blakely passed away. they had been living in St Simons, Georgia, but now it seems Mr. Booth has moved, to Memphis I think.

I really think his has been some of the best writing about jazz and blues music in general, and the Rolling Stones in particular.

I agree Duke, he's a beautiful writer. Thanks for directing me to Blakely's web page, made me long for my Georgia days. I wasn't familiar with her at all, now I want to seek out some of her poems.

Yes, you're right.

He references himself frequently and unnecessarily, just as he did in his book about the Stones.

Stanley Booth is a friend of mine. A fine writer who knows what he's talking
about. Life has not always been easy for him. His talented wife died a
couple of years ago. A difficult death, and he took it hard.

He has recently remarried, and I wish him all the very best.

I've just read some of her poetry - if I had to choose between reading more and listening to say Dirty Work I'd definitely go with the former. Forgive me if that sounds crass...

I bet she was a heavy smoker - her addiction to tobacco comes across in some of her poems.

I have known Stanley very well for over 20 years and knew Diann very well prior to her passing.

They had been divorced for well over a year if not over 2 when she passed. He moved at one point to Athens, GA from Brunswick, GA and now, I understand he has returned to Memphis. I was unaware that he may have married again.

She died of a chronic lung disorder, aged 57.

Whatever bad in the book is so far outweighed by the good it’s hardly worth a mention. It’s a gift really and corresponds so beautifully with GS.
I attended Bill Wymans book signing a number of years ago in Union Square. He took time out from his promoting to say…”Do you all know the best book about us is written by Stanley Booth”

Really....I wonder why none of the RS have stayed friends with him..all of his references are to the past.

No reason to think he hasn't ...

We know Keith is loyal to his friends and he and Booth became friends.

I enjoyed the book about about Keith, (published in 1995) and they were certainly friends then .. would presume they still are.

but you do know Mr. Booth, so you probably are more up on this ...

I just hope he's got another book, I'm a fan.
