A very kind gesture. Immediately I thought, the Stones would never do this for anyone, including Bowie. To open a show with a tribute to a fallen musician is an even bigger honor to that person.

bruce did it for bowie too

And Don Henley.

And Don Henley's still living', so that's something. winking smiley
But he also did it for Glenn Frey who is often mistaken for Don Henley.

I could see Keith doing a song from Merle.

Yes, Don is still alive, it was me who have mistakenly thought he was dead. Thanks for pointing that. grinning smiley

I made the same mistake Cristiano, as I could not name the full Eagles band apart from Joe Walsh, although I love their music.

So glad that Don is still alive and still rockin' and rollin'. winking smiley

Just listening/ watching Purple Rain (the movie) and realized that Prince sings "don't let the elevator bring you down," which is kind of spooky given that he was found in the elevator of Paisley Park.

I'm the last person to believe in supernatural explanations for stuff, but this was a bit spooky.

BTW, the opening 8 minutes of Purple Rain is as solid an opening for a movie as I can think of. Stunning playing and song.

So what are you saying then, you prefer the stones to prince? What a shocker!

I think almost everyone on this board would feel the same way.

But why are you upset that other people are upset, and trying to marginalize how they feel?

Does it make you feel better?

It's a shame he died at 57.
And no, it does not make me feel good that so many people are upset. Quite the contrary.

All I'm saying is what I said from the start.
With his amazing musical talent/ability/gift I expected better records. Or at least more good records than what he produced.

Why is that so offensive?

i didn't say it was offensive, but it is completely meaningless to the thread.

Cristiano,

Don Henley and his fans are very glad that you were mistaken about his death.
So, no worries.
We all make a lot of mistakes, The Eagles made 1000's of them, and the Stones have made millions of them. May we all live to make a billion more. That's the one thing we're guaranteed to accomplish in life.

David Gilmour paid tribute at The Teenage Cancer Trust 2016 show at Royal Albert Hall tonight.
During Comfortably Numb, the first 45 seconds of the solo is Purple Rain, then blasts into the original iconic solo the song is known for.

*Not sure how long this video will last as youtube has been quickly taking down everything from Gilmours recent tour.

This might go under the Prince thread, but here it is anyway. AMC Theaters will be showing Purple Rain at selected theaters in the U-S. Here's a link to search it out.

I went last night- it was a very respectful tribute- everyone in the band wore some form of purple as well.

I knew Bruce would have to tribute him and I said it should be as grand as possible. I never thought he'd actually run with that idea, but he did and it was just outstanding. I wasn't there but considering going solely cause of a Prince tribute. Bruce nailed it though and it couldn't have been more well done.

Well, he could have opened the show with Let's Go Crazy like I originally said, but he destroyed Purple Rain with such respect.

That was pure class! the whole band did a great job getting that together in such a short period of time.

I don't disagree, but at the same time, that band is a jukebox of a band that can play almost anything people can throw at them . . . Burning Love & Satisfaction in an episode of "Stump the E-Street Band"

On the internet nobody knows
