Charly´s best drumming.

What are your "Charly´s best drumming moments".

I think whenever he is going into the technique, where he is still the world wide Rock´n Roll-champion: THE OFF BEAT.

For instance here just four examples:

"Street Fighting Man"

"Wild Horses"

"Some Girls"

"We love you"

"She´s a Rainbow"

I loved his drumming on YaYa's. That was pure Charlie, while on other well known studio cuts we learned the grooves weren't his ideas.

He might be referring to stuff like Ventilator Blues and Miss You, where others had input on the groove. But that's not uncommon with ANY drummers, if the drummer isn't the main songwriter in the band, that is smiling smiley

I don't know what his best drumming is, but one of my favorites is Loving Cup.

Fixed the thread title, including that weird apostrophe.

Charlie is an amazing live drummer. His drumming on all of Get Yer Ya Ya's our it superb, as is his drumming all over Love You Live/Friday LA. Especially on You Can't Always Get What You Want.

I don't like the 90-Japan From the Vault recordings at all, but Charlie's drumming is excellent all over there.

Not to very too far from the topic, but when was the last time Charlie played an interesting beat on record. Almost everything I can think of from the last 25 years features the same pedestrian bass-snare-bass-bass-snare plod...

I think his drumming got kinda ruined once they tried to take onboard that jittery new wave drumming style and/or that thing of lifting his stick off the hi-hat when he hits the snare... wonkified his groove, to my ears and it seems to have made him lose his ability to play like he did circa 1967 - 1972. Eg, like his playing on studio versions of Jigsaw Puzzle, Gimme Shelter etc etc.

True, but it doesn't sound like Charlie to me at all. I suspect he only recorded drum samples and the drum track was put together in Pro Tools without him actually playing it.

The coda on How Can I Stop is lovely.

I like those samples,
but I'm not talking about those.... I like Charlie's drum-track very much.

Sometimes he plays the bassdrum on 1, snare on 3
instead of the normal bassdrum on 1 and 3 ...snare on 2 and 4.

Charlie's great!

Wonkiefied?????? Rather the other way around pal! Ringo's drumming is Wonky, Charlie never left that wonderful Philly-Soul style he aquiered in 71-72-73 and thanx God for that!

His best??

Hand Of Fate, Slave, Start Me Up and Summer Romance of course!

(Nonsense)

Oh dear, here we go again, why is it nonsense?

You reckon Charlie's drumming in, say, 1978 is equal to what he stuck to in 1967??

Charlie is the best and he gets better every blo**y year pal.
