Where The Boys Go

Hey girls, you better listen to me
I'm getting starved with your company
All day Monday and all day Tuesday
I played football, there's nothing on the telly

Ever since I was just 13 years old
And I always felt shy but I acted so bold
I never had the money and I never had the class
But I always seemed to get myself a Saturday night piece of ass

Where the boys go on a Saturday night
Where the boys all go to hold you tight
Where the boys go Saturday night
Where the boys all go

Saturday morning and you see me down the pub
And I'm pissing away me money and I can't stand up
Cab fare, pop? You're silly in the road
Get in everybody, where the boys all go

Hey, never keep a secret from me
Never keep a secret from you, yeah
Never keep a secret from me

Yeah, where the boys go on Saturday night
Where the boys all go to hold you tight
Where the boys go to stand around and pose
Where the boys all go, showing off their clothes
Where the boys go, down the disco
Where the boys all go - where the boys all go

Hey girls, what are you doing tonight?
Now do you want to dance or do you want to fight?
See here, darling, I know the score
Paint your face, dye your hair, I'll see you round the back

Hey, never keep a secret from you, well, well, well, well
Never keep a secret from me, yeah
Never keep a secret from you - everybody knows...

Where the boys go on a Saturday night
Where the boys all go to hold you tight
Where the boys go on Saturday night
Where the boys all go - where they go, where they go

Where the boys go on Saturday night
Where the boys go to hold you tight
Where the boys go for a giggle and a laugh
Where the boys go, and a little bit of ass

Where the boys all go for a little piece of this
Where the boys all go, and a little bit of that
Where the boys all go for a little piece of stick
Where the boys all go, and a little piece of that

Where the boys go
Well the girls all know

And the girls all know
Where the boys all go
Well the girls all know
Where the boys all go
And the girls all know
Where the boys all go
Well the girls all know
Where the boys all go
Well the girls all know
Where the boys all go
Well the girls all know
Where the boys all go
Well the girls all know
Where the boys all go
And the girls all know
Where...

I always loved this track.
Jagger, Richards, Wood, Watts, Wyman: everybody in on top form on it.
The "Foxes in the Boxes" version is a true killer.

Bad and silly. In fact I always get confused between where The Boys Go and Summer Romance (like I always get confused between Too Tough and All The Way). Whereas on Some Girls punk-rock seemed to have a good influence on their music, on ER it went silly. Admittedly they still play it better than any other band would, Ron and Keith doing all kind of fun licks, but why play this in the first place?

What a great dirty little ROCKER! Too bad, they didn´t try it live! For me it´s the best song on ER!

Here is a textbook example of the Rolling Stones alchemy, the synergy and the magic that no one else can duplicate. This baby’s got one hell of a pulse; Charlie swings so hard that this track should come with a warning label for listeners with a pacemaker. The guitars are riotous and dangerous, bobbing and weaving and locked perfectly in-step with the engine room. And then there is Mick’s brilliant performance as a belligerent yob with serious lusts, spitting out lyrics that both celebrate and mock the sexual mores of the working class. And it closes with the icing on the cake: that transcendent call-and-response climax between the girls and the boys.

Delirious fun, and one of the ten reasons why the album this track comes from is a stone-cold masterpiece.

It's a bit of a "When the whip comes down Part II", if you ask me.
Enjoyable (until the girls come marching in). Ronnie's bass doesn't leave much room
to breathe, but breathing is not really necesary when it comes to doing punk-rock.

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

One of the tracks that make ER so great for me. It is marvelous and better by far than any of the "punk-ish"-SG-tracks. One of the best songs on ER, never get tired of listening to it. The Stones at their best, each one of them is on fire. This should have been a single-release.

Edit: What´s wrong with the girl choir? Simply irresistable!

Let's just say they illustrate perfectly the procedings of a night with a couple of friends
when suddenly the girls enter the scene.

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

Cartoon Stones like so much of their late 70s material but but this has an added air of yobbish menace - that would also have have worked really well if they'd seen through Loog Oldham's plans for the Stones to star in Clockwork Orange before Kubrick got hold of it.

I wish the Stones had made a total punk album instead of spreading the uptempo rockers over Some Girls and Emotional Rescue. Just think how great an album would have been with Respectable, When The Whip Comes Down, Shattered, Lies, Where The Boys All Go, Summer Romance, Claudine, and some of the other songs left in the can at the time.

By the way, I don't think the girls were Jo and Jerry - I read somewhere they were two schoolgirls that were invited in that night.

I love this noisey "Pub Rock" ditty.

The thing that's always tickled me about it is the unusual British-ness of the lyrics.
Ethnic chameleons though they are, it's not too often that this side of them emerges from the trans Atlantic soul of the band

Since the first time I Heard it I have thought that Bowie's 'Boys Keep Swinging' inspired Mick to do this one...

Heaven loves ya
The clouds part for ya
Nothing stands in your way
When you're a boy
Clothes always fit ya
Life is a pop of the cherry
When you're a boy
When you're a boy
You can wear a uniform
When you're a boy
Other boys check you out
You get a girl
These are your favorite things
When you're a boy
Boys
Boys
Boys keep swinging
Boys always work it out
Uncage the colors
Unfurl the flag
Luck just kissed you hello
When you're a boy
They'll never clone ya
You're always first on the line
When you're a boy
When you're a boy
You can buy a home of your own
When you're a boy
Learn to drive and everything
You'll get your share
When you're a boy
Boys
Boys
Boys keep swinging
Boys always work it out

Thanks matxill for speaking my thoughts, and sparing me much effort to write anything about this track.
While I really like Summer Romance, this is like it's goofy little brother trying to hang with the big boys.
It comes off as an unnecessary nuisance, and like a pesty little brother, the ending of the song continues to linger like a shadow one step behind.

Not an obvious track you like at the first listen, but without a doubt the more "stonian" from the whole album.

I find the awful comments amusing in a way. I can see not liking it but musically it is very sound, I cannot see 'awful' in any way. Great guitars, love the solo, as someone pointed out, Charlie's drum rolls kick ass. Just not as good as the Some Girls rock numbers, but still good enough!

Totally not my cup of tea. No for me. Usually I don't write about a dislike, but since you asked... No.
ETA, but cool reviews from those who dig it.

Maybe you're thinking about Sweet Neo Con or Suck on the Jugular.

Sweet Neo con & Suck On The Jugular are both very good Stones-songs. It´s always a pleasure for me to hear them. Of course, Where The Boys Go is even more enjoyable. Every second of it is enjoyable, the boys are shining and glimmering all the way through. One of those tracks that can make you an addict immediately.

Why? It's got everything. All the idiosyncrasies of the musicians shine through, while the interplay remains excellent.

Not liking the englishness of it is a fair thing, though. Personally I love it.

One of the mediocre tracks on a very subpar album, well, until Undercover and Dirty Work set the new low bar. It might have worked out better live, with Bill giving it the rubbery bass treatment. This album was such a come down after Some Girls. The first couple plays were fine, with She's So Cold, Emotional Rescue and Indian Girl, but then I found myself never playing it again.
