I saw Clapton twice. In 1979, with Muddy Waters opening. Eric was still getting high, and had a car accident on the way to the concert. I had 5th row seats. That addicted, suffering bastard blew me away with long blues runs. Incredible.

Next time was my birthday, 1994, at the House of Blues (now defunct) in L.A. Sat within 20 feet of Clapton in a relatively small club. He was promoting some Robert Johnson inspired work. He was technically clean, and drug and alcohol clean. Not a missed note. God it was boring.

I've seen him many throughout the years and have never been 100% bored, but have perhaps yawned a bit here and there.
First time at the ARMS Benefit L.A. Forum 1983 - there was a reason he was the "Master of Ceremonies", although I was more blown away by seeing Jeff Beck for the first time. First time to see Jimmy Page as well, but was underwhelmed by that (that's another story). I also saw Clapton on my birthday in 1985 at the Universal Ampitheater (also now defunct) L.A., and while it was the 'Phil Collins' studio era and the sound was a bit sterilized, I still had a good time. Several other times since then with the Clapton/Winwood tour being the most memorable.

As for his studio work, I gave up on that along time ago, but hopefully this new one will be worthy.

I hope he is able to make Clapton less boring.

Hate to say it but I agree. Hope it's very electric and dirty. Blues and rocking! That would get my vote.

Is there any engineer that powerful?

It sound's OK, but Clapton live is better than Clapton studio, and has been post-pilgrim. Pilgrim is an underrated gem.

I really like this. This is what music used to sound like. I would've thought this was from 1974 or something.

Although it sounds like JJ Cale or Bill Wyman, it's Eric Clapton we're talking about. The legendary Eric Clapton from Cream.

Beautiful song, not boring IMO.
I think the lyrics are about his contributions to the Stones New album.
Maybe he adresses Jagger, who wants him to play less laid back,

A bit boring if you ask me. His latest set list in concert would put
a 2000 pound rhino to sleep forever.

Nice, subtle, laid back, and of vintage early-late'70's quality.
Great backup singing, real instruments, and minimal production. thumbs up

I actually like the studio "I Can't Let You Do It." Might be something that winds up in my CD player.

The live from Budokan 1st night "I Will Be There" sounds like a good bathroom break song at a concert. Of course the Japanese audience loves everything EC.

I never heard of this Ed Sheeran until a couple of days ago. He sat in on a couple of acoustic songs at the Budokan 1st night. Last nights show, #2 of this years run, had no special guests.

Yes, in JJ Cale style. This track sounds like something from 'Troubadour', side B.
I think it will be an old school album.
Thanks for sharing.

On one track, 'I will be there', a credit is given to 'Angelo Mysteriso'.
In PR for the album, Eric confirms its a guest, but won't say whom. Except he does say its NOT George Harrison. All good marketing hype of course.
Any guesses?
-Mark Knopfler
-Keith Richards
-Ronnie Wood
-Dhani Harrison.

Album U K release date 20 May.
May purchase or do a deal with Mr Spotify.

According to the story Cristiano posted:

"The album also contains “I Will Be There,” a song of unknown vintage, which features vocals and acoustic guitar by one Angelo Mysterioso
(a musical nom de plume used in previous decades by the late George Harrison)".

If Clapton is denying it is indeed George, perhaps Dhani Harrison has taken on the nom de plume of Angelo Mysterioso - who else would ever use that name?

Just look at this video - [www.youtube.com]
It's Ed Sheeran eye rolling smiley
When they announced the album they wrote: Angelo Mysterioso – acoustic guitar, vocals
And if Ed Sheeran does this live, it also must be him on the record

It does sound like Ed Sheeran on the record as well.

I like what I hear, of course it's "new" Clapton, so it's a very laid back album, don't expect Cream, or Derek and the Dominos.
Speaking of that, I don't know why people expect people like Clapton, or the Stones, to do what they were doing 50 years ago, no one in real life does, so why should they? In that aspect I think Clapton deserves a lot of respect as an artist, it might seem boring to a lot of people, but this is a man at ease with himself, with his age and his legacy, playing the music he likes and reflecting the way he feels at this stage in life.

Nice interview from Rolling Stone magazine:

Eric Clapton Talks Making of 'Slowhand,' Spontaneous New LP

_______________________________________________________________________________

And the mystery of Angelo Misterioso remains mysterious - perhaps it is Ed Sheeran?

RS: Your version of Paul Brady's ballad "I Will Be There" includes a credit for acoustic guitar and vocals by "Angelo Mysterioso" –
a George Harrison reference. What's the story there?

EC: I had this [other] guy come and sing with me, and then I tried to get permission to release it.
His company didn't like the idea. So we did what me and George used to do, which is just appear anonymously.

RS: Who is Angelo Misterioso?

EC: I'm not going to tell you [laughs]. That would blow it all. The reason we did it was for business reasons, to keep the suits happy.
That's the way George and I used to do it. And this guy liked it too. I think he felt quite honored to be allowed to use that pseudonym.
