I know him from playing in the band with Ronnie Wood for a great version of Seven Days at The Bob Dylan 60(?) anniversary in MSG.
Maybe some one can post this clip. I'd like to see it again! Thanks!

He played rhythm guitar on the three tracks Mick cut with Nile Rodgers (HALF A LOAF, SECRETS, and TURN THE GIRL LOOSE) in 1984. He played rhythm guitar on DANCING IN THE STREET and backed Mick at Live Aid the following year. He played rhythm guitar on RUTHLESS PEOPLE and I'M RINGING in 1986 and cut five tracks with Mick just outside Amsterdam for PRIMITIVE COOL later that year. He was part of Mick's sessions in Barbados and cut two more tracks during mixing and overdubbing of the album in 1987. He was expected to tour with Mick following the album's release. Mick initially hoped to undertake a world tour, but then brought Roger Davies aboard as a manager who tried packaging a Jagger/Bowie/Tina Turner tour. When Mick vacillated further, Smith signed up for another season of SNL instead needing secure money. His spot was taken by Jimmy Rip who was the guitarist at the Peppermint Lounge when Mick appeared in Bette Midler's video for BEAST OF BURDEN in early 1984. For three years, Smith was part of the circle despite not being remembered by many fans today for his association with Jagger.
