Wanna Hold You

Ah ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh

Oh I want to hold
I've got to hold you
Hold you, baby, close to me

I hope you find it funny
That I've got no money
But if you stick with me
You're going to get some love for free

(You've got to hold) I've got to hold
I've got to hold you
Hold you, baby, close to me - close to me

Yeah, I've got to hold you
I've got to hold you
Hold you, baby, close to me - yeah

You sure look good to me
So what's it going to be?
It's up to you to choose
I'll make an offer that you can't refuse

Oh baby, I've got to hold you
Yeah I've got to hold you
(Want to hold you) Hold you, baby, close to me - yeah, yeah

Oh baby, I've got to hold you (hold you)
I've got to hold you
(Want to hold you) Hold you, baby, close to me - yeah, yeah

This time it's not for fun
Yeah you're the only one
What should I say to you?
I only know that this love comes for free

(You've got to hold) I've got to hold
I want to hold you
Hold you, baby, close to me

Yeah, I want to hold you
I've got to hold you
Hold you, baby, close to me

Well if you let me smile
Well if you know I lie
But after all you gave
I'll be your lover, I'll be your slave

(You've got to hold) I've got to hold you
Yeah, I want to hold you
Hold you, baby, close to me - oh yeah, oh yeah

I've got to hold you
I've got to hold you
(Want to hold you) Hold you, baby, close to me - oh yeah, oh yeah

Oh baby, I've got to hold you (oh yeah)
Yeah, I've got to hold you
(Want to hold you) Hold you, baby, close to me - oh yeah, oh yeah

(You've got to hold) I've got to hold you
I want to hold you
(Want to hold you) Hold you, baby, close to me - oh yeah, oh yeah

Oh, I want to hold you (want to hold you)
I've got to hold you (want to hold you)
(Want to hold you) Hold you, baby, close to me - oh yeah, oh yeah

Want to hold you
Hold you, baby, close to me, baby - oh yeah, oh yeah

Oh, I want to hold you (want to hold you)
I've got to hold you (want to hold you)
(Want to hold you) Hold you, baby, close to me - oh yeah, oh yeah

Very underrated.
Keith played it live in 2007 and did it very well.
I think it's a really great rockabilly number, only problem is the 80's style production which is true for the whole anyway great Undercover album.
Love it!

"Ah ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh"

Keith has always been very good at writing opening lines for his songs...

Great what only three musicians can achieve.

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

And in 1997/98. I liked those versions the most, since he also played the rhythm guitar on it back then.

The acoustic rendition on the Honeymoon Tapes is gorgeous!
The goofy effects on the released version are ...
well, I guess it seemed like a good idea at the time

Hewn from the same rock as Little T&A but not as hook laden or funny lyrically. Good little rocker but unspectacular.

Terrible. One of the 4 songs on Undercover I always like to skip.
As much as I like most of Keith's songs in general both solo as on the Stones albums, this is one of the few I really dislike (others are: Infamy, This Place Is Empty, Losing My Touch).
I don't like the rhythm, I don't like the melody, and I find the lyrics excessively stupid. Anyone who makes "money" rhyme with "funny" should be deeply embarrassed (with the exception of ABBA, since I think they were the first to do it, their music is a bit campy anyway, and they are not native English speakers).

Nice Keith Rocker, one of the reasons I reach for Undercover ...... Nice that it is stretched out a bit

The only unremarkable track on Undercover. Vapid and uninspired, but still a nice break from all the carnal mayhem.

What can I say about Wanna Hold You... I just LOVE it! It is marvelous, catchy, funny to listen to and really rockin´ and rollin´.

One of the album´s gems indeed. Undercover is filled to the brim with gems anyway.

Of course I also love the live-versions of this song, never get tired of listening to it.

Above average catchy little ditty - one that gets stuck in your head.
A taste of greater things to come from the solo world of Keith.

Above average

... for the Stones, or versus what the house-band down at the pub can do?

This track is just what Undercover needed, well part of what it needed... The rest of the album was a little bit serious, and this song balanced that out very well (kind of like the effect of country honk on let it bleed... something to remind us that it's only rock n roll).

And when the song finished, you had to turn 90° to the catwalk´s fence,
cause the bridge was about to come. And on the way back there was always
a chance for handshakes and even autographs...those were the days.

its interesting to see the stones and wanna hold you being compared with abba and how camp they are.

as a rolling stones fan and one who has been for 28 years i feel i can offer unbiased opinion, and not always go down the route of liking everything the stones did. which i find many do try to do on here.

to compare to abba is a joke.

wanna hold you is a desperate attempt at trying to find some power and melody and pass it off as a great stones song, it failed, something that abba seldom did was fail when it came to producing great studio songs, abba, camp or not, wouldnt produce stuff like wanna hold you. many of thier songs were far superior to a lot of stones songs.

It is a nice little catchy Keith-track. Nothing groundbreaking about it, but certainly not their worst, imo. I don't think anyone (including Keith) has ever thought of it as great, in any way..

Fun little rocker. I personally love funny/money lyric!

Whoever mentioned the honeymoon tapes, I agree.

The vinyl album does not have the "refuse" lines like the CD album.

I thought he sang "If you let me slide" before the slide guitar part, not "If you let me smile"...
