Trainspottery Rolling Stones People Are We?

Are we Trainspottery Stones people? I've seen this word so many times now that I had to research it!

"often derogatory A person who obsessively studies the minutiae of any minority interest or specialized hobby."

"A person who can sucessfully identify obscure music a DJ plays. A hardcore trainspotter can take it a step further and identify the source of obscure samples.
Trainspotter: "That's track B off of the first pressing of So and So record"
Friend: "You're such a trainspotter.""

As dedicated Stonesspotter Ian McPherson points out on his site:

"[The fans] go into reasons for liking a group in such detail
that you feel you must have been put under a microscope
but it makes their letters specially interesting to read.
And they seem to have got a really furious sense of fanaticism."
- Mick Jagger, 1964

Ask Deltics.

Too bloody right.
According to Mick we can't help ourselves!

From the hopelessly inaccurate "Rarities" sleevenotes.

"As we say in England, it can get a bit trainspottery"

Funny expression, never quite got how it came about. I guess it has to do with people who obsessively watch trains? I do love words...and yeah, we prolly are Stones trainspotters, some more than others, and you know who you are. winking smiley
