Twenty Flight Rock

Well I've got a girl with a record machine
When it comes to rocking, she's the queen
We go to dance on Saturday night
I'm all alone and I hold her tight
But she live on the 20th floor in town
The elevator's broken down

So I walk one, two flight, three flight, four
Five, six, seven flight, eight flight more
Up on the 12th I'm starting to sag
15th floor I'm ready to drag
Get to the top, I'm too tired to rock

Well she called me up on the telephone
Said Come on over, baby, I'm all alone
I said Baby, you're mighty sweet
But I'm in bed with the aching feet
This went on for a couple of days
But I could not stay away

So I walk one, two flight, three flight, four
Five, six, seven flight, eight flight more
Up on the 12th I'm starting to sag
15th floor I'm ready to drag
Get to the top, I'm too tired to rock

Yeah, it's sent to Chicago for repairs
Til it's fixed I'm using the stairs
I love my baby, want to see your face
I love my baby too much to wait
All this climbing is getting me down
They'll find my coat's draped over her rail

So I walk one, two flight, three flight, four
Five, six, seven flight, eight flight more
Up on the 12th I'm starting to sag
15th floor I'm ready to drag
Get to the top, I'm too

Typical Cochran-styled song...I prefer Stones doin' Berry...But this version is OK...3/5...

Still Life is one of the first Stones albums I ever listened to, and I found this song intriguing as I'd never heard the stones do it nor had I heard anything quite like it before. For me back then, it served as a gateway to the great songs and bands of the 50s that influenced the Stones, and for that I will always have a fond memory of this song. Two thumbs up.

One of the many great songs on Still Life. It's fast, fun, short and feels just as fresh every time you hear it.

The Stones firing on all cylinders! One of the best rock'n'roll songs they ever did live in concert. The Hampton version is, if possible, even stronger than the Still Life version, imo.

It's nice, it's fun. Doesn't hold a candle to some Chuck Berry covers they did, but it's enjoyable.

Nifty little rocker. Just like on the 69 US tour The Stones were dipping back into the rock'n'roll songbook around this time.

I agree with Come On in that nothing beats the Stones covering Chuck Berry but this one was a lot of fun - and far better than that dreadful version of Chantilly Lace.

They seem to have fun rushing through this song. I like it, in fact I like the entire Still-Life album a lot. It´s a short but satisfying listening experience.

For some strange reason, the rock-a-billy/teddy boy thing was a mainstream fashion (with punk and disco) in Finland in the late 70's/early 80's, and as a teenager and reflective for anything at the time, I was familiar with the stuff. Eddie Cochran was one of the biggest heroes, a real original (unlike, say, The Stray Cats). So it was a funny surprise to find a Cochran piece from a Stones album.

A bit rushed version, with not much nuances and Jagger, typically for the tour, not putting too much thought on his delivery, but who cares... Rocks like hell. The rhythm section shines. A nice and rare node to the past.

An absolutely smokin', ass-kickin' barn burner of a cover song! I love it...

I remember seeing the show and being knocked out when they played TFR and Going to A Go Go in succession. In Detroit it was a big deal to hear the latter. We thought they'd played it just for us.

Stompin' great stuff played in giant stadiums amidst zillions of fans.
First time seeing the Stones at L.A. coliseum '81 twice, and this is a huge part of those memories.
When Still life came out, I listened to this more than the other tracks to relive the memories of it all.

Mehhh for me too. Don't mind it, it rocks well enough, but don't need it. If it were removed from the album and no one told me, i might not ever notice.

I prefer Summertime Blues, Somethin' Else, Cut Across Shorty, and Weekend. Eddie Cochran was an unbelievable singer-songwriter.

What is the name of the Eddie Cochran song that Keith opened his concerts with on the Main Offender tour?
