I'd like to start a subthread within this thread, called MAUDLIN Rolling Stones songs.

Here are a couple to get the ball rolling:

Already Over Me
Always Suffering

I think they may be the same song, it's been a long time since I've listened to either.

I've never heard them. Doesn't seem like I'm missing anything. They sound like late-era lugubrious Mick songs?

Well they sure ain't salubrious!

I think I may be mistaken, I think they're actually called:

Already Suffering and
Always Over Me

no expectations
wild horses
lady jane
as tears go by
time waits for no one
no use in crying
already over me
fool to cry
memory motel
blue turns to grey
let it loose
love in vain

all sad and mostly great songs.

much more to the stones than just banging thier instruments and shouting and screaming, because thats how some people view them as.

An impression supported by their history of playing (mostly) uptempo and upbeat tunes in concert. I love it when we get a glimpse of their more emotionally sad side, Moonlight Mile was a highlight for me this year.

There is an inverse relationship between fast tempo and sadness.

I'd throw this one in the maudlin category.

* Time Waits For No One
The way the melody goes, the sad but melancholy lyrics, MT's last big trick with the Stones.

* Wild Horses
One of their best ballads.

* Angie
Nicky Hopkins brings magic on his piano with this song. Especially his solo.

* No Expectations
Brian's last beautiful swan song. You can hear his frail 'voice' on the slide guitar.

* Coming Down Again
Keith's songs are almost always very sensitive. This one is very touching and you can hear druggy Keith spill his emotions.

* Winter
The desire for a hot summer can be heard in Jagger's voice. Plus, a beautiful solo by MT and beautiful orchestral arrangements by Paul Buckmaster.

* Let it Loose
Almost made me love Gospel music. This whole song gave me an emotional rush! Especially how it ends. Amazing!

"ALL ABOUT YOU"

Keith's swan song to Anita.

What about Blue Turns To Grey??? I knew the song already, but since I saw the 25x5 documentary, where they used BTTG as the background tune on Brian's funeral images, this song made me feel real sad.

I was about to write the same, but you wrote it first. Good call! thumbs up
