Is there a Rolling Stones song has a key change within it?

I can't think of any. I am not a big fan of key changes, maybe that's why I like the Stones so much!

You mean modulation.

Hmmmm. Fool To Cry modulates but it's not what one would consider your regular ol' modulation, what I consider to be hitting a car sized pothole modulation, where the song just takes a very odd and off kilter jolt key wise and the voices go up 35 octaves. I think that's it for Stones songs. The Cult have done it once, in Edie (Ciao, Baby), but it's a gradual step up after a bridge, not one of those hitting a car sized pothole modulations like Aerosmith and Bon Jovi have done with their horrendous ballads. I think Def Leppard have done it a bit (I'm not really sure about that but for some reason it jumped out at me that they have).

So in essence, not the Stones (or The Cult or Zep or AC/DC or The Beatles that I'm aware of in terms of what you mean by key change). And the modulation in Fool To Cry is at the end when it goes into that I'm a foool babe-eye-eye yeahhhh ohhhh A'hm a foooool yeahhhh' part. It's not common with what one might call a true rock act.

Ah yes, Dear Doctor!

OK so that's 2. There may be some recent tunes that do it that I have deleted from their discography...

Although it isn't sung, what about the bridge on Before They Make Me Run?
Is that a series of key changes?

CYHMK does, in a sense. It starts in G before switching to D for the guitar solo and the vamp at the end (although the key is slightly unstable during the sax solo and the outro).

Eh, but that's not the song in the sense of modulation with the song. If that makes sense. It's a whole different song. You could say similar about Slave but that's probably more of a B than a modulation regarding ABA etc for verse chorus bridge etc.

Salt Of The Earth is just two parts really, A and B. Keith sings over what becomes the "chorus". It doesn't modulate.

That's a bridge - or middle 8 or whatever. And it's almost the same arrangement as the bridge in Shattered.

I think the key change question in this case is in the song itself regarding the vocals etc going up a few keys.

yes exactly when the chorus or the verse change from A to B or from A to D or other..
Dear Doctor is a good example

Yeah, I see your point - like Layla, more of an outright key change than modulation as such.

HA HA! I said the same thing in that one too! Modulation! That was an OT thread though...

Actually, doesn't chorus on You Can't Always Get What You Want rise up (modulate?) through a few keys at near the end?

It goes through a progression but ends up back in the main key.

Well Happy has changed keys over the years and several other tunes as Mick and Keith have found the best keys for singing the tunes....but I know that's not what you are asking about here.

No Spare Parts almost does.

If Mick wasn't able to change the tire, he might've needed a new car, therefore, a new key.
