So what made you decide to listen to it, eh Treacles?
Glad you liked it...I'll give it a listen later, need some more coffee first.

Funnily enough I was debating on whether to go to a Cult show next weekend!

I hold skippy in high esteem. He's validated my initial opinions on him.

OK...now I'm up and fixing myself a third cup LB.

Go! Primal Scream! Primal Scream are awesome live. They have only played Seattle once before. Truly memorable show at the old Off Ramp. Need I say more? I'm seeing the show on Saturday night.

Primal Scream is the ticket as far as I am concerned.
I'm going to the hollywood Paladium show on the 20th.

That's not a bad tune upon first listen- there's some of the original essence of the band in it's early period.
I really liked She Sells Sanctuary from '85, and that whole album in general.
But if memory serves, they kind of changed with big bombastic rock anthem type stuff...sounding a bit generic imo.
Looking forward to hearing the rest of the new stuff.

Dark Energy sounds like DREAMTIME era Cult grown up... with a lot of muscle.
Your memory is correct, although ELECTRIC is not that. That album is beyond outstanding. Although the big bombastic rock anthem type stuff was at times good, it wasn't exactly what I suppose could be called vintage Cult - SONIC TEMPLE was exactly that. There are some great tunes on it (Sun King, American Horse, NYC), some big rock anthem tunes (Fire Woman, Edie, Soul Asylum) and the rest is decent (Automatic Blues, Medicine Train) to bad (Soldier Blue stinks - so does Wake Up (Time For Freedom) but it does have a nice guitar solo during a mellow part of the tune). They left a long heavy vibed out tune off the album that would've probably helped the album out. The River. It's a monster. But the album has too much FM rock radio sheen on it. It's almost like a clean shimmered up Led Zeppelin album.
They sort of got back on track with CEREMONY and sonically it's their best sounding album but it's a bit all over the place. It has some outstanding tracks (Ceremony, Wild Hearted Son, Earth Mofo, White, Indian Woman) and the rest is... uh. Well, they left a fantastic track off the album that was a B-side, Red Jesus.
Their worst album is BEYOND GOOD AND EVIL. The last one, CHOICE OF WEAPON, is outstanding. BORN INTO THIS is pretty good. THE CULT is fantastic. LOVE, of course, is stellar.

Since it's kind of being billed as co-headliner thing, I really hope we get more than 45 minutes of Primal Scream. I like the Cult ok but when I've seen them they have been kind of so-so. I'll check them out but may leave early. Big weekend with Seattle/Arizona game on Sunday. Also, I know Andrew Innes in Primal Scream & may be hanging out with him some. The email has been sent..

New music. Fresh meat. Another veteran band that continues to record new music. The Cult's new LP HIDDEN CITY comes out 2-5-16. For the meantime, the single Dark Energy is out. Thumping almost trance tune. Nothing bombastic as they've done in the past.
