O/T Johnny Marr at The Albert Hall, Manchester. Thursday 8th October, 2015.

Hello,

This was a short-notice decision to see Mr Marr play his second show at The Albert Hall- and of course Sod's Law said it would have to clash with Norn Iron's Euro 2016 qualifier against Greece. Still, thanks to the internet I knew that we were doing ok by the time 9pm rolled around and JM and his other three bandmates bounded onstage to a deafening ovation. Seriously, there could only be one other venue in the UK with a more partisan crowd...Windsor Park!

I only knew about a third of the setlist, but it didn't matter...

As you'd expect, the roof was raised as soon as the opening bars of any of the Smiths numbers were played: Johnny Marr knows what punters want and it doesn't appear to bother him to play some of his old band's catalogue...he was beaming at the support and made mention of the love he felt a couple of times.

Although the sound wasn't as great as his talent deserved, his playing is still a joy to hear- you should've heard the exquisite racket he coaxed out of his Jaguar at times. Yep, he really is all that, and at £28 for about 100 minutes you know he isn't about ripping-off his audience either. Good on you!

Cheers,

Simon.

ps here come the noisy, 'orrible photos...

Thank you for the report.

Marr seemingly always puts on a fabulous show. It's nice to see a typically varied, career-spanning setlist, too. Something for everyone. He's more Smiths-heavy than Morrissey, currently. I attended one of the latters Hammersmith shows earlier in the month; i was lost through three quaters of it!

Hello,

Appreciate the comments and your patience, folks!

Al, it's a funny thing- I've never seen Moz play and I know that having only seen JM a couple of times that I hardly have an insight into or know the bloke at all, but it seems that Marr is more comfortable in his own skin.
He has no bother playing old songs that send audiences potty, or doing meet'n'greets after shows, signing stuff and posing for photos. Maybe he just enjoys live shows more, I don't know...if you were to ask which of them I'd rather go for a pint with...

Anyway, next up is Steve Nieve in Liverpool tonight!

Cheers,

Simon.

Thanks for the report and pics.

Saw him last year at the Trabendo, great show too. I'm glad he's back in action as he had to cancel a string of dates last year for unspecified (family?) reasons.

As a side note he's just released a rather good live album called "Adrenalin Baby".
