I have not anything against Some Girls. I just missed a star. Anyway it is an important album for the Stones but it is not one of my favourite. I prefer listen to some tracks from this album live than in studio. So nothing so special in my ratings. I prefer other albums undercover and black and blue for example.

By that logic, one could disqualify all albums recorded after the departure of Brian Jones from the band.

ALL albums should be disqualified because Ian Stewart is not listed as regular member! No Stu, no Stones, it´s that easy! Disqualify all of them, I say!

Come on you cant be seriously disqualifying albums because the bass player left the band. Wyman was not the most important part of the Stones after all. I wonder if there are people who disquaify all post-Moon Who albums.

If we accept that Beggars banquet, Let It Bleed, Sticky FIngers and Exile are the peak of their work and henceforth deservedly get 5 stars...but then allocate 3 stars to ABB it indicates that there is only a two star difference between the two cohorts.

Now, I'm no lover of ABB, I admit that, but surely non of you could argue that ABB is two stars away from let's say Exile! Maybe 5 stars as a top score isn't high enough, maybe it should be 10 stars and then leave ABB at 3?

I'm curious as to why you harbour such an acute dislike for this album.

I find it strange when people feel obligated to loathe something.

There is no "obligation" to dislike, or like, anything. It is personal taste. YOU may like it. Good. I don't. My opinion is equally as good as yours, or anyone's. No obligation. Just opinion

Because it sucks. There's no obligation. That's just it. Why is it so difficult for some people, like you, to understand how a piece of shit is a piece of shit?

Suggesting that Dirty Work is one sixth as good as Steel Wheels is risible.

Says YOU. In my OPINION it is far worse than one sixth as good as Steel Wheels. But both your and my opinion are equally valid. None of our opinions can be based on fact as music taste is not factual. It's personal.

Well, it's a ridiculous concept treacle. CLearly the Stones have turned out some absolutely wonderful records and also some dreadful records a 5 star system doesn't work with such a varying output of quality....I'm typing this with a smile by the way!

Well, on that note numeric ratings themselves are ridiculous in that they are completely subjective when it comes to art. But we seem to love the simplicity of them.

Perhaps if it was 1-10 instead of 1-5, or 11 numbers - 0-10, it would be easier to articulate the depth of the quality of an album better?

For example, LIB would get 10, SG would get 8, U would get 6, IORR would get 4.5 and DW would get 0.

Isn't that just the equivalent of a 'stock split'?

Rating a work of art as worthless is illogical, as all works of art possess inherent value.

This is the problem with rating a piece of art '0'.

0 is always 0, regardless of the scale on which that 0 exists.

GLS erroneously views Dirty Work as worthless, so would rate it 0/10, 0/100, 0/1000, etc. ad infinitum.

That's not at all true. Let's say his score
Was 0.4 out of 10 (rounded down to 0 of course).
On a scale of 100 then Dirty work would be a 4.
The scale is in integers you see.

GLS's score wasn't 0.4, though, it was 0. Erroneous to assume it's been 'rounded down'.

So you define a 'great album' as scoring 8 or more out of 10? Relative definition, of course, but fair enough.

I was thinking of comparing the Stones albums in relation to each other, as opposed to any exterior metric.

I could easily add one to each of the ratings, as it would make little difference to the comparitive score of one album in relation to another.

Exile is ranked the highest, and I'm loathe to award any album 10/10.
