In the latest version of Mystery Train (2015) Greil Marcus mentions that the Gimmie Shelter that occurs in Scorsese "Casino" is "a harrowing, previously unheard alternate take". Page 222. That might be an idea too.

The alternate version of Loving Cup from the expanded Exile is easily the best "alternate"of a Stones song by a considerable margin. And might be one of their best tunes - period....

The Virgin Wanna Hold You has an extra lyric couplet than the prior UNDERCOVER release. Metrolyrics.com has the couplet and azlyrics.com doesn't.

eons ago keith mentioned that the wrong mix of Have you seen your mother baby, standing in the shadow was released as the single. has this ever been confirmed? and do they have the "correct" version to put out?

The original cassette release had that version as well.

Regarding true single remixes and edits, the two edits of Miss You are interesting if you're into how songs are edited - it took me years to realise that the sax was missing from the UK version.

I Go Wild remix is better than the LP mix, as is the true remix of Love Is Strong (Clearmountain remix).

Two additional single edit remixes of Out Of Tears.

Don't Stop, the rock mix or whatever it's called.

Doom And Gloom remix is not exactly a remix, is it, since that stuff was added to it.

Is that it for single remixes or edits regarding recent releases? All those A and B-side edits from the 1970s aren't necessarily any different like Miss You is, they're just shorter.

This is just a dfferent mix.
I understood VideoJames is looking for totally different versions (different take) suggestions and if possible officially unreleased yet as it is a "From The Vault" project.

I think you're right.
Maybe he also looking for officially released different takes, but quite obscure, such the Shelley Hot Rocks versions ?

No.

That's just the isolated vocal track with the piano for the beginning of the tune. It's the same take as the other two releases, it's just missing the guitars and edited shorter.

Exactly. The 3 released versions of "So Young" are from the same vocal take from 1994 but mixed and edited differently.

Anyway, I guess nobody wants to get for the xxth time "So Young" in this "From The Vault" project.

HA HA! Why would anyone want to get So Young for the 4th time! They (or someone at Virgin) acted like putting If I Was A Dancer on Rarities was... rare!!!

I think I have a CD with several versions of Rock and Hard Place on it. Dance mixes or something.
Isnt there an extended version of Where the Boys Go? I think I have this somewhere at home as well.

It's too bad Jimmy Miller and Andy Johns are no longer with us as they were probably great sources for information and stories behind the likely many Alternate versions of songs which exist in the vaults from their most productive period.

Obviously Bitch has been released with 2 Alternate takes, both of which are great. IORR has a couple versions in circulation. Several tunes where Jagger sang a live take on top of the backing tracks for a TV appearance, if my memory serves me.

James, I really hope they decide to bite on the 1972 Lost Live Album proposal. It is one of my very favorite periods for live Stones music and I would eat up any new high quality recordings from that period. Powerful stuff.

Brown Sugar with the Taylor solo and different guitar parts. Living in the Heart of Love (Luxury). Shine a Light.

Why not throw in some unreleased songs like Trident Jam and Traveling Man too?

...the version of Brown Sugar that is featured in Gimme Shelter (and/or the one that ended up on early pressings of Hot Rocks in great sound).

No problem!
We have here a rare chance to have a great unreleased alternate tracks (2cds!!!) project initiated by James. It is great from him to ask us fans ideas for this relase but I am a aghast to read the suggestions here!
Between the official remixes and the tracks we all have since decades (like this anemic version of Loving Cup from 1969), I hope the result will have a bit more imagination otherwise this release won't be very exciting...

Kimsey is still around. He was a junior engineer by Sticky Fingers already.

Yes, another good source but obviously not around for a lot of the sessions like the ones at Nellcote. Also I'm sure Don Was got an earful during the time he was given unfettered access to the vault recordings. There are probably more alternative versions and great jams than we could even imagine. I'm guessing a lot of them shelved simply because they had no usable vocal track.

I really like the backing instrumental tracks on most songs and wish we had more from just about all of the studio albums.

Yes I do too. I was enthralled with the stuff released as Nicky Hopkins demos from the Exile sessions from the Hawaiian source.

There are some pretty good DSP programs out there that can remove vocals from recorded music, developed for the karaoke market. If you are so inclined you could always apply them to the Stones studio albums. smoking smiley

Aren't there two versions of @#$%& Blues? The acoustic version (the most known one, and the better version really) and the more electric one.

And the single version of One Hit is shorter than the album version but that's probably not what you meant.

Thanks for the tip Naturalust. Any recommendations as to DSP software that might be free or inexpensive and would do the job?
