Top 5 Stones Albums Discussion/Debate
Posted by: ThumpinJackFlash ()
Date: October 6, 2015 00:00

Forgive me if this topic or one similar already exists.

But I was looking to start a discussion/debate about everyone's top 5 Stones albums. Feel free to interject your thoughts whether it's in agreement or disagreement!

For me:
1. Sticky Fingers
2. Some Girls
3. Exile On Main St.
4. Let It Bleed
5. Steel Wheels

Have fun! Cheers.

I've got to move while it's still fun...

Yes good call.

Mine change from mood to mood, day to day. Is it not good that we are fan's of a band that have so many great interchangeable albums!... Like choosing trying to pick your favorite kid (ok I wouldn't really go that far). All have different qualities that provide bragging rights. - but of course there is always a black sheep of the family that shall remain nameless!!

No particular order:

Aftermath
Sticky Fingers
Exile
Some Girls
Out Of Our Heads

If we were including greatest hits and live albums, I would throw Hot Rocks and Ya Ya's in there somewhere!

Why wouldn't we include greatest hits and live albums? The question was about albums. Ya has definitely belongs!

As Dandy and UTR have noted, our personal top 5 lists probably change once in a while. While most of us might agree on the "best" 5 RS albums that we'd recommend to a new fan (some combo of the Big Four, SG, Hot Rocks), our personal faves evolve depending on what we've burned out on or rediscovered for the moment. I find it interesting and refreshing to see such titles as RSNow, OOOH, ER and SW on people's lists.

If we're talking live albums I have to mention the Shine A Light Soundtrack. That was the very first full Stones CD I bought and it truly hooked me.

Excluding live stuff;
1) Exile
2) SF
3) BB
4) LIB
5) SG

No surprises, and there shouldn't be except perhaps SG. I did have to give the 5 slot some thought.

Including live stuff;
1) Ya Yas
2) Exile plus alternate Loving Cup
3) SF Deluxe
4) Brussels
5) Handsome Girls

Honorable mention - Stones Touring Party, BB, LIB

Only the fifth one matters (to anyone else) – Emotional Rescue (probably because it was my first Stones record).

Threads like this never get old, btw, never, but the way I listen to music these days, and I can’t be the only one, almost renders the entire concept of albums moot. Today, for instance, I had time for about seven songs and my ‘album’ of choice was ‘Emotional Beggars Bleed on Sticky Main Street.’
