Keith closes his interview with BBC's Jo Whiley with new album talk:

"Stones are working on one, yeah, at the moment..as we speak. We cut a few new things and we're going in again later this year."

So maybe the new album isn't coming until next year?

'Later this year' might be 'tomorrow'...

When was the interview recorded? Still assuming the Fall unless one of our trusted sources says differently

The site has July 20th, so late-mid July appears to be the time of the said interview.

its either:

1. new album coming this fall. its done but they recorded so much and have so many ideas that Jagger and Richards want to hit the studio again later in the year for a follow up like Some Girls sessions leading to Emotional Rescue or

2. we are not getting a new album until next year

im betting on option number 2

Re: New Rolling Stones studio album due out in 2016

Maybe two options here then:
1) They will release the new album in time with the US October gigs. And maybe even try a fresh song on stage! Or:
2) Dabble with it forever and release it somewhere in 2017. Just a wild guess...

Another option:

They might take the long way home, like Keith did with CH. It took him at least 4-5 years to complete it. New Stones-album in 2020eye popping smiley

Keith says "we're working on it now as we speak,we cut a few new things and we're going in again later this year , which could be overdubs, or a few other songs to record, which is how I interpret it.

If they are to release an album in the fall all recording and mixing would almost certainly have to be complete by mid August.

Mid august isn't exactly later next year in gist .. That is like three weeks from now yo?

My guess is the album's recording is completed (with some final mixing and a master to be finished is all).

.. No way they will be doing recording or mixing past mid-August if they plan on having it out in October ...

Some here say the album is basically done. The Stones have not given any account of anything ... Not release time frame (besides Ronnie Wood saying 2016 in April) ... Officially or lately we have gotten nothing... Just that they are working on one / it.

***Please... Please.. PLEASE .... Someone give us something we can count on or a verified update on what's going on.....

Lol I did listen to the interview <before> posting. Just like I listened to Don Was and his comments (which I still have bookmarked) on the radio in an interview when questioned about the new album / albums. Also I listened to Jagger and Ronnie's comments on working on the new album during the exhibition ceremony in April.

Lol I can assure you that I've played them each at least a few times including Keith's last interview with the BBC (I always do before posting about these things).

>> My conclusion is that I am a bit confused as to whats actually the story (real story behind said album / albums).

The latest comment from Keith seems like a good thing, for me anyway.

The way a look at it is that they take there time for this record and recording. That is good news in my eyes. No rush job like A Bigger Bang. And more in line with the way they used to record. Who knows, maybe they have found more inspiration than initially was hoped for ! Maybe they cut more songs than was expected.

The glass is half full !

The entire exchange goes by in about 15 seconds in the last minute or so of the interview and it's the only 'discussion' of the studio album presented here.

"...lateR this year" does not mean "...LATE this year" per se.

'Later this year' might be 'tomorrow'...

In England, 'later this year'would mean the October to December period.
If it was earlier than that you would use words like 'soon, next month, shortly, later this summer' etc.

True, but as the interview was carried out THIS MONTH, it would imply towards THE END of 2016.
Maybe its going to be some further recording in between the already confirmed October concerts in the US ?

There's another interview with KR in the new edition of the Radio Times to promote the Julian Temple programme. The interview seems to have taken place around June at the Dorchester Hotel in London (he mentions the forthcoming EU vote) Most of it is the usual stuff but he does mention the stones had been practising at Mark Knopflers studio.

I quite liked the last answer of the interview where he talks about getting older...I've typed it below word for word how it's printed-

Why does he think the Rolling Stones have lasted longer than other bands?

'Well they're not really bands,' he says 'They're groups. We're a band. And a real band sticks until it dies! These bands, they become big , but they're generational. Just for one decade. They literally go when the testosterone goes....I mean we work hard, no one takes it for granted. We're still looking to make our best record and put on our best show. The Stones have managed to be part of life without being passe'
'Also what else are you going to do? I'm here, on the other end, and I'm looking at life from here....this is what happens. It'll happen to you, it'll happen to everybody that's going to read this. Life changes as you go along, and the thing is it never stops. You never grow up, you just learn a little more. I ain't getting old, I'm evolving'

Some truth in that interview. The part "We're still looking to make our best record and put on our best show. The Stones have managed to be part of life without being passe'" is questionable though.
