The Rolling Stones and football fans
Posted by: Cristiano Radtke ()

...or soccer, for those who lives in USA. grinning smiley

Ronnie and Mick are seen in stadiums once in a while, Charlie is said to be a Tottenham Spurs fan, Bill is a lifelong Crystal Palace fan and Keith seems to have no interest about football, but worldwide there's a lot of football fans who are also Stones fans. Sometimes they show their admiration for both football and the Stones, like these folks from Argentina who unveiled today this flag on a local match.

Communist kickball?

The game played and loved by millions the world over only needing a ball or improvised alternative, and some jumpers for goalposts? Maybe the fact you don't need thousands of dollars worth of equipment to play it makes it communist. Moron.

You stick with your brain damage inducing gridiron buddy. Maybe you could stage a World Cup featuring the USA and all the other nations who have seen your national sport and decided to take it up too. Good luck with that Jack.

These are the fans of Racing Club from Buenos Aires, and at the bottom of the flag it says "Racing - an inexplicable passion", followed by another Stones logo. grinning smiley Here's a video of them unveiling the flag.

Thanks for the pic and the video Cristiano.

I know that South America, Spain, and Portugal are very passionate about their football and great music.

The Stones, AC/DC and many others get such a great welcome in South America.

Really hoping I can make it for The Rolling Stones next February/March or whenever they get over there. smileys with beer

Here in argetina, football is the main thing, for good or bad. I'm a boca juniors fan. Every "hinchada" (group of fans) have at least one flag with the tongue with the team's colours, but have to say that racing club's fans call themselves "racing stones" (don't read it in english, it's the name of that club). Sorry for north americans, you call football something which is not kicking a ball with your feets.

And Bill is a Crystal Palace fan, if I remember correctly reading in his biography.

Keith, Liverpool? Really?
...Must have been to annoy all them Beatles fans, no doubt. =o))

Seriously, what's the 'connection'? Has he ever elaborated on the reason(-s) for this? (When/ where did he say sucgh a thing, btw?)
I understand (or better yet: assume) Keith 's not the worlds's Greatest Football Fan, but even so -

Really curious about this.

I thought that too!
This guy is from Brazil and has a big knowledge from whole South America and maybe from the whole world.
Cristiano, good find (pic and video) from this "Racing Stones" flag!
I can tell you this happens on almost every weekend's match. The "Racing Stones" is a group of Racing Futbol Club followers who started around 1991 and never stopped. As "dandelion1967" has said above every "hinchada" has at least one flag with the Stones' tongue painted with their team's colours, but must say that the "Racing Stones" is the first and bigger one! I must say I like to watch them spread their flags in the tribunes of the stadiums even if I'm not a Racing Club fan. I follow the Pope's club btw!

So what happens to all those fans under the flag, will the flag be removed so they can watch the game? I would be pissed if I went to a game, and some fanatic fans decided to drop down a big ass flag like that.

The flag is unveiled before the start of the game and some minutes after it's removed, so they can watch the game without having a restricted view. It's a kind of tradition in some South American stadiums.
