Generally, I do not go for that stuff. I tend to leave people alone. If the occasion arises I sometimes say Hi. But I can think of three times I went out of my way to pay my respects to someone I greatly admire and offer my hand: Levon Helm I could not resist. A great pleasure. Vince Scully in San Francisco after some jerk Giants fan saw him and shouted "Dodgers su*k!" I felt I had to make up for that. He's been and still is a lifelong source of pleasure. And Kareem Abdul Jabbar. That was a fist bump that I could not resist as well. I was at Inglewood Hi (you know, the Forum) when he was at UCLA so unbeknowst to him we go back a long way.

Gerald Ford and Andy Warhol! I said "let's do lunch" to each and they both laughed.
