...what's going on in that town? First the Crack Mayor, Rob Ford, and now this millionaire hockey goalie, Jonathan Bernier, telling us this about Nelson Mandela:
wtf? That's pretty embarrassing. Unfortunately probably a great % of 26 year-olds couldn't do much better.
There is a great documentary about how Nelson Mandela supported South Africa's all white Rugby team to help heal racial tension in that country. It's called "The 16th Man", part of the 30 for 30 series by ESPN and a pretty moving and emotional piece of film.

Dumb as a stump but young, rich, good looking, well dressed and a professional athlete...sadly, I'd trade places with him in a second and would'nt care at all about being intelligence challenged...
Depending on how he could handle the swimsuit & evening gown rounds, he'd make a great beauty pageant contestant here in the USA.
Agree with Naturalust re: "The 16th Man" documentary. Good film on it's own. Most of that whole 30 for 30 series has been pretty well done.
Also agree with ronkeith72: I'd trade my current status of fairly intelligent, middle-age, broke, and average looking for his current status in a second. Actually, given the opportunity, I think I'd take the trade in half a second just so ronkeith72 didn't beat me to it!
The thing is, he was invited to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela on the anniversary of his death (Mandela's..). I know he's just a hockey player but couldn't he have googled his name before the event? Even hockey players know how to do that. It would have taken him less time than tying his necktie. Or ironing a suit..
Don't blame us just because our Morons are more high-profile than most. We have Bieber too ("Anne Frank would have been a Belieber..." ) I'm proud to say I didn't have a clue who Bernier was before this post. We don't all slavishly follow hockey. And... Ford is out as Mayor.
Born and raised in Toronto. Can't say it's a terribly exciting city (I prefer Montreal) but it is home. And Rob Ford's last day as mayor was last week i believe. We are officially a John Tory city.
"...playing hockey everyone knows ho he is, you know, being the type of person he was on the ice and off the ice... " It's hilarious! (sorry Torontonians, it could of course been any city...)
1. Speak in nothing but cliches. 2. Are poorly educated.
The education part is changing as more NHL players are coming thru US colleges and Europe vs the Canadian Junior Hockey system, where it seems school takes a back seat to dreams of the NHL at an early age.
It is so rare, in any NHL interview, for a player to say anything that is not a cliche. The guys usually play with a great deal of heart, and it rarely comes across when they speak into a microphone.
The Bernier video is just stunning. Not only does he not know who Nelson Mandela was, he speaks in cliches and the lies just keep growing. I wonder if they can tell when Bernier has a concussion? Does he sound smarter after brain injury? Kind of hard to believe he would sound worse.
Go Sabres! (though they keep winning and ruining their chance to get Connor McDavid)
