As much I like the Stones you must admit it took them several sessions over several months/years to wrap a song.

Its why the guy's a genius. Plain and simple. He wrote arguably the greatest song of all time in 2 days.

He probably wrote the song in a matter of minutes or perhaps hours. Recording the song properly is a whole different animal and subject to a whole different set of factors, like how familiar and rehearsed the band is and how capable and prepared the studio staff is, etc.

Check out entire records like Chris whitley's Dirt Floor which was recorded in less than 24 hours in a barn with one ribbon microphone. Truly a treat to hear such good songs captured in their raw and sparse form.

True. Its just a good story that such a great song was written and recorded in the span of two days grinning smiley . But then again thats how silly rumors get started too.

You have a point! For years Dylan spread the rumor that every song from "Sub..." was recorded in one take. Until Kooper "gathered" his memories from this era and said "nope, it was take after take, man".

Several of these tracks (9, if I'm not wrong) appeared on Dylan's Highway 61 CD-Rom.

Just pre-ordered the 6 disc boxset.
This will do it for me although the 18 disc box is really tempting...

I shelled out for the 18 disc boxset. I teetered for while and then decided to pull the trigger. Bob really screwed a lot of us over by not releasing a digital only (greatly reduced cost) version of the 18 disc edition.

If this truely is the only time they will release this music, then I don't want to miss out. I only really care about the digital download link in the box. Everything else will collect dust on a shelf after I give the books a once-through.

for those who want to order the 18 CD box and live outside the US - watch out! You'll have to pay custom charges as well as import taxes. For Germany you'll have to add 3,5% custom charges and 19% Einfuhrumsatzsteuer (vAT for import)

A stunning Dylan show in Oslo tonight. Sheer beauty! I never imagined seeing Bob on this form. He sang surprisingly well, and the show was in a very intimate venue.

I hadn't heard the Sinatra album, and hearing him crooning these songs sent shivers down my spine. Lovely indeed!

The setlist was mostly Tempest songs + 4-5 tunes off the latest album.

Two totally new arrangements for Tangled Up In Blue and Blowing In The Wind were also among the highlight + excellent renditions of Scarlet Town and Love Sick.

Go see this tour! thumbs up

Nice Dandelion!
I saw him almost a year ago to the day (lordy time flies eye popping smiley ), and had a similar impression regarding his voice,
the intimacy of the venue (Dolby Theater, L.A.), and the urge to tell everyone to 'Go see this tour'! thumbs up

Great to know he's back in good form with his voice, DP! The last time I've seen him (in 2012) it wasn't so good, although it's a concert not to be missed. thumbs up

Wow lots of Sinatra and two unreleased songs (I'm also assuming they're Sinatra ones?)
Saw him 4 nights in a row last year, he's at another career peak. Don't miss it!

Yep, two cuts that didn't make the album. Both beautifully performed.

Thank Dandie for your report. Great to hear that Bobby is still going strong - as he was when I catch him 2013 and 2014. Especially the first of them, about two years ago, in a rather intimate venue in Milan, and for not seeing him for some years, was a stunning experience - couldn't almost believe in how great form he was on. eye popping smiley

But what goes for the new release - thanks god that I am not a Dylan completist! (But I gotta somehow to hear that 18-CD bugger...)grinning smiley

I've got a front row ticket for Bob at the Royal Albert Hall later this month I also had a ticket for the show 2 days prior to the one I'm going to but I decided to give it to my brother as he's never seen Bob before. This should be a great set of shows and he's always different every time I see him.

Nate thumbs up

I know they'll be selling postcards of my hangin' for saying this, but LARS is, IMHO, over-rated. It's a great song, but not the greatest Dylan song, just one of them. Played so much it is tiresome to hear it. For my taste, I'll take Baby Blue over it anyday. Mercifully, Dylan saw fit to drop LARS from his set list. Even he got tired of it.

Re Dylan's set list from Oslo, props to him for going for the most part with newer stuff. One can only wish that the world's alleged greatest rock'n'roll band would do the same somewhat, trusting in newer songs mixed in with their hits and most known album cuts.

Well most those limited editions are sub par collections (Mumford! THEY SUCK!, and that Dead show is not one of their better ones!). Dylan is always highly collectable. The one box set that was limited was the Stooges Fun House collection then they re-released it in a non numbered edition. But it is still cool. Yeah, I know it is a lot, but think ten years from now, it'll be worth some bank. Look at the Stones vinyl box set how much that is selling for.
