Those who say Dylan doesn't know anything about funk are totally underestimating him due to their own lack of music knowledge. The guy is a genius. He's been a full time student of music for practically all his life. He knows what he's talking about. Even the sound of the bass is all funk and it's played on a funk bass. It's not like how Bill played at all. But I bet he's just doing as he's told.

Bob does a nice job with the Sinatra tunes but I wish he'd do some more Dylan tunes!

He needs to put out Chronicles 2, the first volume was excellent.
Time is running out.

So, is Fallen Angels also Dylan reinterpreting old songs, like Shadows In The Night?

Fallen Angels is nice, it features some beautiful moments. Tempest is better though. It probably takes time to write an album, which is good enough to follow Tempest.

Those Songbook-albums of Dylan are quite strange... I honestly do not know what to think - is he serious or is he just joking? On some songs his singing is quite good but most songs have that strange "hawaii-sounding" guitar on it that makes me think it´s all parody.

Anyway I hope there will not be a third one.

I recently went to a book release party for Dan Kramer who shot many early iconic photos and album covers of Dylan.

Very entertaining stories about working with Bob.
Would have loved to get the book but its a bit pricey.

That's pricey alright. I'll stick to my old Kramer book instead:

Which are the two Dylan albums you categorise as 'Songbook-albums' please?

Aqua...you never cease to amaze me!

Bob's Pasadena '65 concert was the first "pop" show I ever saw. "Our" Stones 66 show at Royal Albert Hall was the second.

What GREAT taste we had as near-children!

I did sneak out of the house to see Ray Charles before either of those. I got
the cops to take me home after it was over. Terrified that my parents would
realize I had snuck out of the house.

These memories are true treasures n'cest pas?

I would hazard a guess he means Shadows In The Night and Fallen Angels....

"the mighty Rattlesnake label bring us two thrilling, brand new releases :

‘After The Empire’ is a 16 track studio outtakes CD of ideas that were recorded after the ‘Empire Burlesque’ album but were ultimately unreleased. This is made up of mostly new Dylan originals with the exception of one cover version. The running time of the CD is just over 70 minutes.

‘The 1985 Tour Rehearsals’ is two CDs of exactly that. Want to hear Dylan rehearse the Beatles with Tom Petty and The Queens Of Rhythm? Would you like to hear ‘That Lucky Old Sun’ and three versions of ‘Red Cadillac and Black Moustashe’? It’s all here"

Anyone in LA see Dylan at the Shrine tonight? A friend said the place had a really bad vibe - a lot of drunk old men were fighting in both the cheap and expensive seats ... People were complaining - wild scene.

There was a story in Rolling Stone (with clip) about Bob playing "Freebird" in Berkeley. Pretty funny.
