What was the biggest stage?

I am a little bored, so I was just wondering. My best guess is the Voodoo Lounge stage. Was there a larger one?

With the onstage boxes I thought maybe A Bigger Bang tour stage? Rio stage looked massive especially with the walkway connecting the stage to the hotel...

The Steel Wheels tour stage was probably the largest one.
It was so huge that for most part in Europe it didn't fit in the smaller stadiums, so they invented especially for Europe the Urban Jungle tour with a smaller stage.

I heard that "too big for europe" also many times, but somehow i doubt it.
Because a football field is not as wide as a soccer pitch. Thats why they need to adjust some football stadiums ince you play soccer there.
So even if it might be true, i somehow doubt it.
I haven't seen the steel wheels stage unfortunately as my first show was Vienna 1990, so it could very well be, it was the largest as i heard this also many, many times

I doubt that too because it even fitted in The Broadway Hall in Atlantic City

Yeah, that "too big" for Europe doesn't make sense since football stadiums are much bigger than American rugby stadiums.

Well that's what Jagger said about it in 1990 as an answer on why the S.W. stage wasn't brought to Europe.
On the other hand: it was used a couple of concerts in Europe for the Imax movie.

Mick has stated in several interviews that the costs of transporting the Steel Wheels stage from USA and Japan to Europe was much more expensive than designing a new (and cheaper) set that could be used.
This doesn't make much sense anyway, because the Steel Wheels stage was eventually transported to Europe in order to shoot the IMAX concert film.

Patrick Woodroffe added, however, in interview with MTV at the time, that the main reason they made a new design for the European shows in 1990,
was because most shows would start in daylight - thus designing a stage with brighter scenery.

On his website, Woodroffe now writes this about the Urban Jungle stage design:
"The extraordinary scale of the Rolling Stones Steel Wheels tour had to be downsized when the tour came to Europe and played in smaller stadia.
Urban Jungle was the result of these changes but although smaller than Mark Fisher's original epic design in America, the stage still looked theatrical and impressive."

"The extraordinary scale of the Rolling Stones Steel Wheels tour had to be downsized when the tour came to Europe and played in smaller stadia". (Woodruffe).
How can that be when European football stadiums are larger than American dito?

Actually, many of the US shows were played at baseball stadiums which are much wider than a football stadium on the short side.

Maybe that's it, Worst. But I wonder if that's a plausible explanation. How big can that stage be when it doesn't fit into a football stadium?

Well are we talking height, width, square feet?

I believe that I read that the Voodoo Lounge serpent was the highest. It had to have a beacon on it because of safety regulation.

Steels Wheels, by a wide margin, and choose your metric. Everything after (and before) was smaller.

Mark Fisher who sadly passed away this time last year, has an amazing website that is a treasure trove of detailed info on every Stones Tour from 1989 to the 50th Anniversary Gigs. The site has brillant architectural drawings, great in concert and loadin' shots

But for the sake of this discussion i'll let the site speak for itself
