Read it?! Hell not! Thanks Toru A!

Wow, what a week for that guy... working on my favourite Stones live recording and my favourite Dylan album... And how the roads of those two records crossed.

Interesting to know that "Honky Tonk Women" vocals were done in a studio, even though that fact little ruins the authenticity.. But who cares, Jagger was on fire doing those in that New York studio. But he seemingly also looks for authenticity, how did he sound like in that gig, as he later did with LOVE YOU LIVE vocals.

I also get to know BRUSSELS AFFAIR as BEDSPRING SYMPHONY, and hell that record blew my mind when I first hear it... Anyway, great to know that Jagger was so involved in mixing it, and he did a great work with dr. Berger in emphasizing the guitars (unlike Don Was later). Both guitars sound damn heavy and awesome in the 'original' BRUSSELS AFFAIR in a way I think any Stones live recording ever have done. Especially they cut off something essential from Taylor's guitar in the new mix (but also of Keith's, and especially the key track "Midnight Rambler" suffers from this). For that reason the new version has never sounded so majestic than the original (even though we get more of Wyman's bass).

Thanks again, Toru A!

Magnificent read for 6 am! I nursed it through two coffees.

Very down to earth writing style, and lovely 'inside, behind the scenes' view.

Thanks Toru san!

Hmmm, if he re-did a vocal and it was used in the final mix you would hear parts of the original leaking through via the instrument mics Ya-Ya's style.

Maybe he just beefed up the chorus or the guy is just mis-remembering and it didn't actually happen. grinning smiley

Sinatra...well, that was worthwhile!
Really like Berger's writing generally.

As a young girl, I was fortunate enough to see Sinatra several times in the late Sixties when he was at his peak including a marvelous concert with Count Basie. Talk about swinging!

Berger was really on the line with that recording date! He mentioned Jilly's, the NY bar where Sinatra hung out. As a kid, on my first trip to New York, I naturally wanted to see this legendary place. Time Square was fairly awful at that time and it took courage to walk down 52nd Street. I expected Jilly's would be really cool but in the light of day it was pretty much a dump. I didn't have the guts to go inside.

I walked by Jilly's once. It was on the second floor on a quieter side street off of Times Square. Jilly Rizzo was part of Frank's entourage. He did something useful for Frank to get included

I wonder if anyone else remembers this, but Rolling Stone ran an article at the time about the early sessions for what became Blood On The Tracks, saying that Mick Jagger had played drums (of all things) on the session.
