Goodnight Irene is even more 1977esque.

I knew you would like it, OpenG smiling smiley

What do you think of the sound of that brazilian guitar?

nice makes you want to listen to the instruments, music and lyrics. I have only listened to four of the songs - Keith's lyrics here envoke emotion. I was never really sold on Keith writing lyrics by himself but here he has found his niche.

play the guitar boy.

honestly - i was really excited when i heard "Trouble" - then the 2 that followed - to my ears anyway - sounded like meandering pieces of crap - then "Robbed Blind" pops up and this is again exciting - sounds like he's sincerely feeling it and perhaps even channeling his old pal Gram - I hope what follows is as promising as "Robbed Blind" & "Trouble" and there are no more silly ones with him 'talking'or recycling the middle of "If You Can't Rock Me' in them - just sounds uninspired and tired- but this is just my opinion...i do already know that if i bought the CD version of this album i would program those 2 out- but i'm buying the LP so i will have to physically get out of my chair - the way it should be...

Agree with the SMBH reference. Grateful Dead played that song really well '71-'72. Keith really hit a home run here. Crazy at it seems I may end up liking Suspicious better and Just A Gift will be close also!!

Keith's bass on Substantial Damage raises the level beyond good IMO. Does Keith play bass on Pretty Beat Up? Yes he does!!

That's the second comment about how wonderful the bass is on "Substantial Damage"...it hadn't struck me so I gave it another listen at full volume and...well, I suppose it's ok and has some interesting moments at the very end but nothing really extraordinary or something Darryl wouldn't play and be criticized for? It certainly isn't striking as a bass line Macca or Bill could have come up with. On the other hand there isn't really much in the way of chords or a melody to work around ;-)

I think of Robbed Blind as Toronto era and Goodnight Irene as Longview Farm.

(I also love the fact that fans can actually make comparisons like this in 2015.)

It's not generic or phoned in. It's played with passion and a unique timing that you'll never hear from Darryl, or anyone else for that matter. You'll hear the same timing in his singing, his guitar playing and especially in his piano playing.

Just remembered...Eric Clapton recorded this for his last album "Old Sock".(2013).
I think his mates Chas and Dave also, but their interpretation was more Kareoke than Leadbelly.
Looking forward to hearing Keith's take.

My top 3 of Keith's solo albums after playing "The Listening Event" Bootleg with poor sound one time and a few songs separatly:

1.TALK IS CHEAP
2.CROSSEYED HEART
3.MAIN OFFENDER

lovely treasure hunting Matt!

the story is quite intriguing -- Robbed Blind. the sound is Uber much better on the www.crosseyedheart.comwebsite.
Robbed Blind

"Okay roll it"

Someone stole some money
Who it is it ain’t quite clear
Stolen from my honey
She holds my stash around here.

The cops you know I can’t involve them
They’d only interfere.
So I hit the usual suspects
But I drew a blank around there
I’m robbed blind
Robbed blind
Pedal steel
I Found a letter to her
It was from a a friend of mine
It was a plan to screw me
That’s what they had in mind
The cops I can’t involve them
Don’t want them coming near
Because this thing is getting personal
And the picture is not now quite clear [chgd per withssoul & maindefender comments]
I’m robbed blind
Robbed blind
Bled dry
`` Pedal ~~
~~~Harpsichord~~ or farfisa?
~~Pedal steel~~
The Stash no longer matters
And he ain’t hard to find
Cuz it aint the money honey
But the heart you stole is mine
But the cops I can’t involve them
God knows what they could find
I’ve a learned a lesson from that girl
Whose fate is yet to be defined
Been robbed blind
Robbed blind
Robbed blind
Thank you sweet heart
Bled dry
That was a dang good try
Robbed blind
Been robbed blind
Bled dry
~~Fade out~~
Stash, huh. "He ain't that hard to find." Not a big leap from the stash to the guy who stole it, but maybe Stash the Polish count?
The subtle things Waddy is playing on Suspicious is nothing but beautiful. You can hardly hear it, but it's still heartwarmingly done. Love that track. Can't wait to hear it in great quality thumbs up
EDIT: Love Keith's «sitar» as well! thumbs up
Btw, anyone else noticed that one slide guitar part in robbed blind is a copy of Wonderful Tonight? If memory serves right, it contains a very similar part.
I've got a Fender
Lol any chance?
