Joe Walsh: Blues Project With Jagger And Others

August 1, 2013

Joe Walsh’s upcoming blues album will include two songs he’s already recorded with Mick Jagger. Walsh, who initially revealed his plans for the album in April, detailed the Stones frontman’s contribution:
“He brought in a song and he played great harmonica and we wrote a song. Keb’ Mo’ and Bill Withers came and we all kind of wrote a song, “Over My Head.” I’m a full-time Eagle right now, hopefully I’ll get back to it. Don Was is producing it and, hopefully, end of the year.”

The song Jagger brought to the sessions is an old one by Howlin’ Wolf, according to Walsh. The players — who include Dr. John, Robert Randolph, Keb’ Mo‘, drummer Jim Keltner, keyboardist Mike Finnigan and former Jeff Beck bassist Tal Wilkenfeld, in addition to Ringo Starr and Jagger — are so good, Walsh said that he wasn’t going to tell them what to play. “I just said, “Somebody count off and I’ll see you at the end.”

And all this in a time when I'm starting to appreciate some of The Eagles' music.
Hated them for as long as I can remember, but I'm enjoying quite a lot of songs these days (thanks to hearing New Kid in Town on the radio... such a great song).

If you have any clue who Joe Walsh is, you should clearly have a clue who Don Henley is.

Don't think there's all that much "all this" in regard to The Eagles.

The Walsh project is blues, and that Henley album sounds dubious at best.

Despite being pilloried on Stones forums, Don Was has put together an impressive CV.

What a great photograph! Joe looks better than all of 'em.

Seems a bit obsessive to have Ringo and Jim Keltner on hand?? Either one would be twice as much drummer as necessary for Joe's music..lol. peace

Ringo is Joe's brother-in-law. He had to ask him. Perhaps he didn't think Ringo was enough, but didn't want to hurt his feelings.

Which albums are you talking about? Maybe that blues project of Joe Walsh from which some studio photos were shown on this board?

Haven't heard of any release dates and the Joe Walsh one happened about a year ago now with Jagger being on two songs. I think Felder's he is only on 1. Maybe Walsh'e is being help up by The Eagles tour he is on.

the ones that would be released at theend of 2013, and indeed the Joe Walsh Blues album, not the one from one year ago.

Eagles' Joe Walsh released Analog Man last year, two decades after his last solo album. Now, he is hard at work on a solo blues album.

"I've started a blues album… real obscure R&B and blues songs. Half of it is original, and half of it's old Howlin' Wolf or John Lee Hooker."
