Primarily a pop band this is my favourite Association 45. Often has a spin on my jukebox.

Didn't he write part of Sail On Sailor with Van Dyke Parks, Brian Wilson, and wasn't he also part of Brian Wilson's circle of friends ?

That NPR piece didn't give any mention of "Mary" producer Curt Boettcher who is credited with speeding up the song. In recent years he's become a cult figure among fans of what is now called "sunshine pop" and his work with groups like The Millenium is very highly regarded.

When you listen to "Mary" and other AM hits of 45+ years ago, like "Pretty Ballerina" by the Left Bank, it's striking how substantial the pop music of that era could be.

"Sail On Sailor" is sang quite nicely by Blondie Chaplin I might add.
And I had no idea that Blondie and Ricky Fataar sang the lead on 'Leaving This Town For Another One' on the great Holland album. (From where Sail on Sailor originated). I always thought it was Dennis, but it turns up that neither he, nor Brian, sang any leads on that album.
