Dana Carvey - drums
Adam Sandler - guitar
G.E. Smith - guitar
Chevy Chase - tambourine
Don Was - bass
Mick Jagger - vocals

There's your band.

And special guest Will Ferrell on cowbell....

If this is in fact the lineup (and Will Ferrell on cowbell is inspired BTW), wouldn't it make sense to bring in Mike Meyers on vocals?

Jagger has been trying to put together musicians to back him on SNL that would
suggest performing hard rock songs. He's reached out to one US band in specific
that I will not name and would not personally consider appropriate. It would
suggest he plans to play Stones songs and not covers.
It will also probably not
work out schedule wise. It's nothing like Jeff Beck or Mick Taylor or anything
bluesy for those fantasizing that. Who knows what he'll end up doing when the time
comes but for all you Keith detractors, it certainly does not seem that he is loath
to offend him with it. It's a bit like something the R&R Hall of Fame might out
together is the Stones chose not to show up and they wanted to put something
commercial together in terms of a band teaming with Mick.

For what its worth, and with no disrespect to Teddy, another long-time reliable
source, on the Undercover mailing list, reports the following:

Someone sent me this yesterday....top secret....
Rehearsed in a NY studio.....Mick, Charlie, Keith, Ronnie, Chuck and Don Was
filling in on Bass for 4 songs. Miss You, Fool to Cry, Jumping Jack Flash (all
done twice) and one other one...... Oh, he said they sounded amazing.

(So I'm still listening to the voices in my head, which I already told you about)

I hope so. The source for the story I posted is a close family member, so I'd consider it pretty impeccable. She also said however that it was not likely to work out for the aforementioned schedule problems, which would involve the breaking of a very expensive contract. Maybe the Stones get together was more producti on than Mick had expected? Maybe he's moved on to plan B? Or maybe this story of them rehearsing Stones songs isn't true. We'll see May 19th.

And the Shadow says: The rehearsals were for the Stones July 12 gig.
And it is a VERY good sign that they are practicing Stones songs, and not
just blues. If it was just blues, the July 12 gig was gonna be their last.
This means the 2013 gigs are (tentatively) back on track. But Mick won't finalize
anything until late this year/early next. Until then, he's got Keith by the balls.
And Keith and y'all are just gonna have to at least tolerate Mick's pick-up
band on May 19. So for the same reason, it is now way more likely that Mick will
rock on SNL and not do blues, and use less famous less awesome musicians.
Mick will be fine but his rock band will be no match for the Stones, whereas
his blues band would have slayed the Stones. You won't get the Stones
on SNL but you won't get anything that damages them either. Unless Keith
majorly fcuks up over the next week or so, which I now think is very unlikely.

Is this my most blue-sky forecast ever?

No, but it is interesting speculation. The band he contacted is famous, but they are a band and not an amalgamation of blues supermen. The idea that Keith (and us) will have to tolerate it might be on target. My manager, who has been friendly with both the Mick and Keith camps (at separate times of course -- can't be both) argues that Mick has earned the right to be a "dick."

1) Thanks, Teddy. I'm not really accustomed to being treated respectfully by
those in the know around here, and it feels good.

2) At this point I am assuming that everything Teddy and the other source has
reported is true. All I can say about why is that it passes the smell test.
And although my spin is that Keith is now a little bit more partner than victim
of Mick's current scheming, that doesn't mean we just didn't narrowly avoid
THE END yet again. I can't overemphasize how encouraging it is that these
Weehawken sessions weren't just a few quick days to get a few decent tracks for
an upcoming compilation. If things had not gone well the first few days, these
sessions would not have turned into a rehearsal of Stones songs. Who
cares which ones. What we've been told doesn't mean they didn't rehearse others
as well. So unless things come off the rails again, we're headed towards
Stones shows, and not just a sad Rhythm Kings type farewell on July 12.

3) Teddy's impression that Mick will front another established band and do
a few Stones songs is, believe it or not, also very encouraging. Mick fronting
a blues or rock assembly of superstars would have again been a very bad sign
of what he thought about the Stones at this juncture.

4) After a quick search, the only band I could find that meets Teddy's
description is the Black Keys in Atlantic City. I can see why that might
work, but I can also see why it might be viewed as a little too insulting to
the Stones, given the overlap in styles. Might I then suggest Rihanna's band?
Seriously. They do a big charity gig in NYC on May 14 with nothing scheduled
after that. Stylistically no way would their versions of, say, "Gimme Shelter"
and "Brown Sugar" infringe on Keith's territory, so while Stones fans would
undoubtedly be outraged, to be honest, why? It would be a very benign choice,
given the alternatives.

5) I say to Stones fans, take your lead from Keith. If Keith maintains a
respectful silence towards Mick's shenanigans over the rest of this year,
try and do the same. 2013 still hinges on good behavior all around. When
Mick finally becomes contractually obligated to the 2013 Stones shows late
this year or early next, then Keith and y'all can go back to your trash-talking ways. It'll be great, just like old-times.

Corriecas, if you find Mick BORING, you still consider yourself a Stones fan? Curious word to use....that's one word that is never used in the same sentence with Mick Jagger, unless you say dumb things to piss off real Stones fans and in that case.... YAWN.

I doubt SNL waited till it was three weeks away to book the host of their final show

and it is very rare for someone to host the program who is not promoting something.

we'll all have to wait until the date of the broadcast (or maybe a few days before) to find out exactly what's happening, until then it's all rumour, speculation, and fantasy.

Jagger did not confirm as host until last week. They have been discussing it for about a month.

people sometimes forget that the Stones machine is very quick to shoot down things when they are patently false...i.e. Charlie quitting or playing the Olympics....SNL is a possibility....a real possibility....

Lorne Michaels would not have a problem booting some young actor/ actress off the bill to make room for Mick

This is excruciating. It's like the America election, there's still six months to go but the campaigning has already begun. If there's not a clarifying announcement, then there's going to be rampant speculation right up to show time. Can't we accept that there's a 99% chance the Stones won't play? Then we won't be disappointed when nothing happens. Ronnie played AC. Mick Taylor and then Charlie will play in NYC. Mick is quite capable of pulling off some sort of solo (or Superheavy) turn. Let's just relax and quit acting like the second coming is going to happen. Mick solo is good enough for SNL.

Why the Hell would Mick want to play with a bunch of pretenders when he literally has the Stones in town? Really hard to believe (if it were anyone other than Mick Jagger).

God I hope it's not Maroon5. With Mick popping out after they sing that Moves Like Jagger thing.

Maroon 5 makes maybe the most sense so far. But they're scheduled to be in Baltimore that evening.

I don't like the song either, but "Moves Like Jagger" has been in the Billboard Top 50
for almost a year now!

Your also on a computer, with internet, and presumably can navigate to google maps or some such.

To save you the trouble though, no, it's not THAT close.

There's this band he could use that is in New York. I think they're called "the Rolling Stones" or something.

I'll try to relax but it's exciting to think the Stones may play on SNL! But, I agree, I am satisfied with "just" Mick being there. If the Stones aren't there, then I would love the Black Keys to play with him. I saw them live recently and loved it.

If the Stones don't appear on SNL, it can only mean Mick doesn't think the Stones (read Keith) can play anymore. It makes no sense to snub the band while they are launching their 50th anniversary celebration.

Two jam sessions and a postponed tour seem to indicate they are still having problems getting it together.

Sad, but it is what is.

TeddyB1018 seems to be a legitimate source and he says that Mick is going to be backed up by a well known non-Rolling Stones band. But, he could just be saying that to throw us off and, in actuality, The Stones are playing. So, who really knows!
