Great read. Thanks!

“Suddenly, two policemen’s heads appeared around the door...they were checking to see that all was well...It was priceless and Andrew just said, `Come here.'...[Johns said] `What we really need is a sound like two bits of wood,’ and the policemen looked at each other and pulled out their truncheons. `Will these do?’ they asked, so Mick went down into the studio. If you listen to LET’S SPEND, you’ll hear two policemen’s truncheons being knocked together like claves!”

Well, it's so OBVIOUS those are police truncheons on LET'S SPEND THE NIGHT TOGETHER. Why does Johns feel the need to point it out? Does he think we're stupid?! Jeeze.

Sohoe - what a gem! I love this piece so much, I can't tell you. What a difference a year would make, no? Among other things, Keith was still shy. Thank you for finding and sharing.

And also that he was a dedicated engineer who loved music and was a pleasure to be around.

That vintage console that Sir Paul and Glyn are leaning on....wonder where it is these days? ...

The production gear sure started getting complex after this period of 8 and 16 track studios. Now a typical music studio has a desk which mixes 96 tracks or more. Twice that many for film studios...I liked the simpler approach in those glory days of Rock and Roll......peace

Very nice to have another glimmer of the way these great songs came to life in the studio.
Thanks for posting.
Glyn Johns surely had his share in a lot of the greatest albums ever made. Has he ever written
down his memoires?

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

Interesting read, thanks.

Olympic Sounds is being converted (back to) a cinema. So if you buy a ticket to see a film, you can sit there knowing that you're in the very room that several Stones albums were recorded in smiling smiley

The photos in the article are from a 1967 Marianne Faithfull session at Decca studios.

The harp Glyn speaks of will most likley be the harp heard on On With The Show.
