Maybe we should have a little faith, we are dealing with the Rolling Stones here.... consider that they are like a classic car, age is irrevelent, condition is the key, so, there may be the odd hick up, there may be a dent here or there, the paint may be a little faded, they may screw up and mid way through a song & come to a grinding halt, but they will patch up and get back playing.

I like the idea of a rough and ready rock / blues band making some cock ups, missing some words or cords, but making music, if they tour it may be a bit more relaxed in tempo, maybe even an interval in the middle after Keith but who cares, we have to appreciate that they are now late 60's in age, so give them some slack, I'd rather pay and go and see them and chill out for a couple of hours than go to a modern over produced, pre-recorded teenie bunch of twats where more emphasis is on "the visual spectacle" than the music.

I love the stones live, warts and all, bring it on - and I hope that the next tour, if there is one, is not the last, no reason for it to be, some players are still strumming in their 80's..

remember its the Stones, they are not quitters.....

You have nailed it! Well done! Rock N Roll was never about perfection. It was about going into a garage with your mates and clanging and banging your way to a good time! The Foo Fighters said as much at the grammys! It's about getting up on a stage and letting go! Mistakes and all! The Stones never were perfect. I will take a raw mistake laden live performance over anything done in a studio any old time! Do Pirates worry about spilling booze on their beards? Hell No!

I hooked up with a Sinatra fan and have a large collection of releases and boots. This guy recorded a bunch of shows in Reno and the Bay area in the '80's. As Sinatra got older he still brought in the fans, but as time went on you can hear the audiences turn from enthusiastic to merely supportive. They were happy to see the great singer, but the voice was...old and they knew it.

I saw BB King twice, in '69 and in the early '70's. The power of the great bluesman then was obvious. Then a few years ago I saw him in a concert hall. It was pretty much full. The audience was appreciative, reverential. Good for BB. But he was harmless, an oversized pixie. I prefer to remember the bluesman when he had some fire.

I knew a guy who went to LA airport to see Charlie Chaplin get off an airplane in a wheel chair. He was thrilled just to see the man.

I think you get my point. People will show up to see the Stones. They will be supportive, but what are they seeing these days? I would prefer that the band find some inspiration and go into the studio to make some music that sounds like it matters to them. The idea of them on stage trying to do what they have done in the past makes me uncomfortable.

Good comments. There is no doubt they need to scale things down a bit. I think they can still be effective in arenas but would prefer clubs and theaters. Of course it can't go on forever. There are so many ways to look at aging performers. I think the bottom line comes down to it just being so damn hard to give up something you have absolutely loved doing for most of your life. Don Rickles is now 85 and brought the house down just the other night at a casino near Seattle. Doesn't move like he did 30 years ago, but so what. As long as someone can still deliver a reasonably good performance (and continues to have supporters) the fun can go on indefinitely. I hope the Stones grow closer together in their latter years instead of drifting apart. It would be cool to see them just sitting around in chairs in a studio with their acoustical guitars and banging out new tunes all through their seventies.

No doubt if McCartney stays healthy he will be making music into his 80's. I could even see Mick hooking up with a younger (not too young though) band after the Stones call it quits and going into his 80's also.

Hahahahah Jagger is out of breath now already, what if he gets 80 years old.

I would not want to be in Jagger's shoes now. Not only that to preserve the legacy of the Stones, he has to put up with someone who hates him, jealous of him and ridiculed him in front of the world, but in addition, this person is a liability, whose inability to play and compose must be covered.
We can understand that nothing has been decided - that's why Richards is diplomatically silent. As soon as they'd sign a contract, he'll open his mouth and pour new flows of dirt on Mick. That's when we'll know that soon will be a tour

Keith remains a question mark. He's certainly not going to bring back the days of yore, but may be able to pull of a decent performance if he sticks to the simple, bluesy kind of playing witnessed in the Sumlin rehearsal clip.

Even in that clip he hardly played. No way he can pull that off a whole show, running around and posing. I wish it wasn't true, but it's a sad, undeniable fact.

Yes it is a fact, but to many here refuse to realize that.

My god, All he's got to do is play guitar and maybe sing. We're not talkin about running the boston marathon here. Properly medicated and inspired Keith can still entertain us till the cows come home. I'll take the long odds and say Charlie will be the first man out when the time comes. (Out of the performing band , not anything darker..)

I am a very late convert to McCartney's live shows. They are awesome. I don't much care for him as a person but, as a performer of his and the Beatles' material, he is A+. Full credit.

The Stones will always be my faves and have always had the edge in live performances.

I'm sure, as stonescrow said, Mick will NOT allow a final tour to go ahead if they (Keith) are not up to it. Thank God.

So it's really over to you now, Mick...

It IS ironic that Kieth appears to be the first one out (not counting Brian Jones), that can't really perform up to par any longer - rather than Woody, Jagger, Charlie, Wyman and Taylor. Not that it was unimaginable by any means, but not a hint or clue in his book.

Take a thousand dollars go have some fun
Put it all on a filly at a hundred to one
Hang fire, hang fire

(wikipedia: The phrase "hang fire" means "to delay" )

I'm betting on a filly down at the track
A natural-born winner, that's a fact
A hundred yards from the winning post
The horse fell dead, must have seen a ghost

I know I dreamed you a sin and a lie
I have my freedom but I don't have much time
Faith has been broken, tears must be cried
Let's do some living after love dies
Dead horses, couldn't be dragged away
Dead, dead horses, we'll ride them some day

Not so much idiots MH, more like jaded, ignorant fools...There are those who apparently think it makes them look like they have some unique insight by saying the Stones have seen better days, etc., not realizing how lame they are for stating the obvious...They are seemingly unaware there are fans who still appreciate them and know the band remains capable of making wonderful music despite Keefs' arthritis, blah blah blah...If ya axe me, these people should bugger off and allow us to appreciate the wonderful music they still have in them in peace without their negative commentary...They should go listen to Rod Stewart or something... smoking smiley

I have a different opinion but i´m not an idiot. I respect your opinion about Keith but you and others obviously don´t respect us that think he is affected by his fingers and the headinjury. I can also enjoy that rehearsal clip but i don´t think that Keith can pull off a two hour set with Stones and that´s not his fault, it´s because his fingers and head wont do the job well enough any more, that´s just my opinion. I would be the first one to admit that i´m wrong if a miracle would happen on stage (if they ever try to perform again that is).

Now I'm not saying we'll get Keith to sit in the Red House for 13 minutes with Mick Taylor, but I'd bet MT's ready to take up the slack. Check THIS rippin performance by little Mick. Love his tasty licks and his cryin' slides. The tone he gets on this clip is just amazing. I think Jimi would be smiling down on this one. peace
