OK...here is the granddaddy of collectible versions of the FIRST DECCA album....The Rolling Stones - s/t - UK 1964 1st Press Decca LP 2A/1A Matrix:

This just sold on EBAY for GBP 845 plus 19 shipping. Wow!

It's notable for having the incorrect 'shorter' version of Tell Me, which I'd always thought was just an early fadeout or something but is actually a completely different and great version. Here it is:

I do not own this but I want to! Who has it? Just wondering what you paid for it as well. A true rare collector's piece!

Guilty. I have one. Got it early in the UK and didn't realise that it was "odd" until people started writing books about Rolling Stones' records and recordings.

(I also have XEX 606-1 if that means anything to you.... and again that's simply a result of buying it in London on the day of release.)

Interesting, but even more tentative and messy version of an awful song than the most known take. ^ grinning smiley

I'll agree with you that it is tentative and more messy but not awful!

There, that's a ringing endorsement!

Is that the vinyl edition or cassette edition of the 60s singles?

Nice get...the Rarities album. I think that actually is quite rare. I have a sealed and unsealed version of that one.

Is the Keith box vinyl or CD singles, or something else...can't say that I've seen that one?

Hi treaclefingers,

I've collected (over the years) 13 first "ROLLING STONES" lp's, all mono DECCA red label. LK 4605

All different from each other.

Matrixnrs, sleeves flip or non flip, MONA or I NEED YOU BABY written on it.

YOU CAN MAKE IT YOU TRY or YOU CAN MAKE IT IF YOU TRY written on it.

Grooved or non grooved "DECCA"

Only 3 has the short "TELL ME"

Also a missing sleeve I don't have: a sleeve with the stamp "MONA" on it.

Wow, that is a large collection of the first album. What do you mean by the MONA stamp...I've never heard of that? Are you saying that they have copies of the album where they've stamped the word MONA on the cover?

I believe I have 5 copies of the UK first album, including one sealed copy of what seems like an early 70s version. I have a 10-12 copies of England's Newest Hitmakers in various condition.

I've come across this great website before, thanks for posting stone-relics.

Absolutely fascinating how many different versions of this album one might come across. Tried figuring out what version mine was, the sealed copy, and don't think I'll be able to figure it out. It's non-flipback of course, with The I Need You Baby corrected, and Honest I Do, by Reed. Bottom right corner just says Printed in England...and no UPC code thankfully!

Short of opening it which I can't bring myself to do, not sure I'll be able to figure it out beyond that.

Anyone know the earliest point they started sealing these albums?

I guess the rarity is that it's a Japanese pressing? It's cool because of the gatefold and obi. I'm looking for Beggar's Banquet with the obi, already have the flexi. Not easy getting any obi's from the 1960s.

Thanks for responding.

Yes it's a US London, never saw it or heard of it after 50 years of collecting. Will check run off matrix number.

My initial thought was an early recalled label pressing because the Apple Acetate says Get YOUR ya ya's out also on the green and white label.

I paid about 25 bucks for it. It's a fine addition to my collection either way.

I agree...I like unusual bits like this, and I've never heard of this one before either.

Bought recently a copy of the 1966 live album Got Live If You Want. It was the mono edition, LL 3493.

Matrix side 1:
Matrix side 2: LL3493-B

That's right! No matrix on side 1 and only the catalogue number on side 2.
So decided to play it, put it on my recorplayer, side 1.....NO announcement! Under My Thumb started straight away!

Way cool!!! would love to hear that and find something like that

very nice, thanks for sharing

I have a whole separate COLLECTION OF STONES MISTAKES, MISPRINTS, ETC
Love that stuff

yes, that is certainly cool Henrik....what I'd like to know is how often that happens, and how rare it is. Is it worth anything more than a normal version?

Very interesting Got LIVE If You Want it!
I have a lot of LONDONs with Matrix numbers coinciding with the catalogue number. Usually, they're Canadian, not from US. Very interesting, indeed.

Back to the Get YOUR Ya-Ya's Out!, it was made between 1981 and 1985, pressed by Philips/PCR at Compton (26). Thin vinyl, etc. etc.

Keep on searching the Holy Grail,
Luca
