If I were you're friend and a shop owner I'd be very careful and wouldn't ask anything about both ladies former husbands.
Believe me, nearly nobody likes to be asked about their ex-wifes or ex-husbands.
In our shop we sometimes have customers that are famous, but we think it's best to treat them like every other customer and I think most famous people prefer it like that.

No, they will cross the place off their list of places to shop, spread the word amongst the well heeled clientele, who will do the same. And your friend will hate you forever, even if it were him/her who hatched the thought.

Just a very bad idea, for all of the reasons already mentioned and probably a few more. People are public when they are on stage, on TV or doing meet and greet of any kind. When going about their everyday business, they're private people like everyone else and should be left to lead their lives in peace. Unfortunately thanks to certain newspapers and those who buy them, they're not.
