"Solo Stones" tracks released officially as Rolling Stones

Ok Stones experts, I've got a question. On the officially-released Metamorphosis album, there are several tracks (such as "Try A Little Harder", "Some Things Just Stick in Your Mind", and "Each And Every Day Of The Year" ) on which Mick is the only Rolling Stone who plays. Also on Metamorphosis, "I'd Much Rather Be With The Boys" features only Mick and Keith.

Besides the Metamorphosis tracks, are there any other official Rolling Stones releases that contain only 1 or 2 Rolling Stones? I have a feeling there are but I can't recall off the top of my head.

Thanks in advance.

Drew

A few off the top of my head:

Hurricane (Keith and Ronnie)
Happy (Mick and Keith)
Sleep Tonight (Keith and Ronnie)
Too Rude (Keith and Ronnie)
Petrol Blues (Mick and Stu)
It's Only Rock'N'Roll (Mick and Keith. Ronnie wasn't a Stone at the time)

It's the advantage of being a solo artist! No crazy fan can come and wonder why not him or it is with and playing on your records.grinning smiley

Yes yes, CS blues was released in 1984 in Germany on a compilation album called "The rest of the best, The Rolling Stones story 2.
Decca in Geramny declined to comment - discontinued in 1985.

You could be right, (probably are) but Martin Elliott's book first says 'December 1983' but then goes on to to say "In 1984 the German boxed set from Decca contained.....

Three band members on that one (Charlie, Bill and Mick). And there is still some doubt about whether it's Keith or Ry on guitar. At least, it hasn't been confirmed that it is indeed Ry playing..

Is it all the Stones on their 'cover' of 'Memo...'?

Thanks everyone for your thoughts on this. So it looks like there were 7 or 8 tracks (mostly the ones that DP listed) where only TWO Stones contributed, but no officially-released tracks (besides the Metamorphosis tracks, and CS Blues in Germany) which had only ONE Stone on board.

Interesting.

Cheers all!

Drew

Schoolboy Blues had both Mick and Keith.

And technically, Mick was the only Stone on Petrol Blues, since Stu wasn't an official member.

Memo From Turner (with Mick only) has also been released on Stones albums.

The version of "Out Of Time" on this features only Mick (with the original Chris Farlowe backing track including Jimmy Page).

Would any of this effect the individual cut of the sales profits that each band member receives?

I always assumed that Brian, for example, whose contribution to BB was very limited, would still have got his 20% cut of royalties.

You must mean Let It Bleed?

Brian on BB:

- Backing vocals on SFTD
- Slide guitar on NS
- Harmonica on DD
- Mellotron on JSP
- Sitar and Taboura on SFM
- Harmonica on PS
- Mellotron on SCB

I belive you get royalties per album you contribute on, but also extra per songs, but I'm not sure..

On Let It Bleed Brian only played on MR and YGTS.

Since only one or two are missing on these songs, I don't think these songs can be labeled as 'Solo Stones'.

I guess the songs where Mick or Keith are not credited could be labelled as solo Stones. Ron Wood presence (to make a Stones song) is maybe more debatable...

In terms of writing? Those are obvious.

Keith
Happy
Before They Make Me Run
All About You
Little T&A
Wanna Hold You
Sleep Tonight
The Worst
Thru And Thru
You Don't Have To Mean It
Thief In The Night
How Can I Stop
Losing My Touch
This Place Is Empty
One More Shot

Mick:
Sympathy For The Devil
Sway
Fool To Cry
Miss You
Emotional Rescue
Heaven
Undercover Of The Night
Too Much Blood
I Go Wild
Anybody Seen My Baby
Saint Of Me
Rain Fall Down
Sweet Neo Con (sounds like he wrote it with Jeff Beck - that's how bad it is)
Streets Of Love
Don't Stop
Doom And Gloom

Those are the obvious ones off the top of my head anyway. There's probably more.
