Oh, Cherry oh, Cherry oh baby
Don't you know I'm in need of thee
If you don't believe it's true
What have you left me to do
So long I've been waiting
For you to come right in
And now that we are together
Please make my joy run over

Oh, Cherry oh, Cherry oh baby
Don't you know I'm in love with you
If you don't believe I do
Then why don't you try me
I'm never gonna let you down
Never make you wear no frown
You say you love me madly
Then why do you treat me badly

Oh, Cherry oh, Cherry oh baby
You see I'm in love with you
If you don't believe I do
Then why don't you try me, try me
Never gonna let you down, no
Never make you wear no frown
You say you love me madly
Then why do you treat me badly

Produced by The Glimmer Twins

First released on:
The Rolling Stones - “Black And Blue” LP

Nice song, but the Stones version is really bad. The only song on Black & Blue that I always skip.

The Stones on the beach, flashy silk, moon light on the water. A gleam in their eyes. Sweet smell of ganja, good sensamillion. Great groove, so slow, a new blues for them. Thrilling and they are just jiving with it. Love it. Reminds me of hot summers, dreads, and rum. Love the live version where Mick is bumming because someone has heckled him for singing out of key....

Ramshackle yet charming. Love it. They do a really good live version of it on that MSG show (27.6.75), which was one of only about 3 times it was played live, and which they took a chance on even though, as Jagger warns the crowd, they dont really know how to end it.

It'd be great to hear them unearth this one again - ideally with Mick and Keith sharing the mic on the choruses.

...excellent example of how they could re energize themselves and bring themselves into a more modern live version of the Stones...the "old" modern version from "89 is done.

EXACTLY, on top of that it doesn't sound finished, sounds like a run-through/rehearsal. Belongs along side a few other half finished sounding filler songs - SEX DRIVE, MEAN DISPOSITION, SO RUDE, THINK I'M GOING MAD, and a few others smiling smiley

The studio cut does sound slightly of to me, but still a quite charming version.

Agree on the MSG June 27 1975 version. Great rendition. They seem to pull that one of out of the blue. An absolute fave TOTA moment...

<< Covered by Stones ...UB40...Freddie McGregor ....>>

...and Dennis Alcapone, among others, did some inspired jive talk on top of that riddim...Ripe Cherry and Well Dread are pretty cool...

My only complaint is that it seems a bit long. I don't know how long the OG version is, maybe its the same. I think it should be closer to 3 minutes. I know the black N blue album is supposed to be about the groove, but this track just goes on a bit too long for me. Otherwise I think it sounds good.

would agree that it's a bit too long. As great as the production is on Black and Blue, this track might benefit from a grungier sound, like "Luxury" has. It's not very impressive as a try at reggae, but the only real embarrassment is when someone yells, "Irie!"

To me it's the icing on the cake of Black And Blue in the way You Gotta Move was to Sticky Fingers.

Interesting comparison! for one thing they are both covers that pay tribute to a musical style they were into.

Thank you very much. Yes, they give both styles (not merely the songs) a special treatment.

My only complaint is that it seems a bit long.....would agree that it's a bit too long.

The earliest know version from '74 clocks in at 4.35 something like 40 seconds longer than official release .........

Does anyone else think Sex Drive is a crap song?

It deservedly is the last track on the Flash Point CD.
