One of my favourites is "I Can't Take It No More". Just love the shouting of Joss Stone. The riff that starts at 0.10 makes me think of "Gun" from Mick Jagger. What Mick sings in "Gun" from 0.56 "Why don't you just get a gun" etc. You can sing those lines at that riff. Well, at least to my ears it sounds that way. Anyone else, or am I the only one ?

Not really supaheavy i know, but a lil heavy, and remember, even the Stones
were not able to slay "get up stand up". Plus she was only 18 at the time...

Re: SuperHeavy

Actually, now that I've refreshed my memory, she actually outdid the Stones with
her version of "get up stand up"

She's done at least two other Marley covers, but I'll let it go now. Too bad
she didn't grow up in Barbados listening to the Stones. Then I wouldn't have
to stretch so hard to find somewhere to post her stuff.

Super...I figured you would be a fool for Rhianna.

She has so much talent but the constant emphasis on image is a bit of a drag, as far as I'm concerned.

At least, she's NOT Taylor Swift.

Holy shit! Onstage with Bob Marley 1979, "get up stand up", none other than
Mr. Ronnie Wood!

Is Ronnie truly more "zelig" or "forest gump"?

I actually really enjoy the SUperheavy album, and I give Mick kudos for having the balls to step out of his comfort zone and try new things ala Robert Plant. I think it really works, but to me it's more of a Damian Marley album that everyone else seems to appear on! LOL I love the sound of it though. Great, great stuff.

>>> I figured you would be a fool for Rhianna.

1) I am a fool for her. Its the perfect word.

Its even better than the new word the kids use "stan", which derives both from
the word "stand", as in "I stan for rihanna", and from eminems's tale of an
obsessed fan "Stan".

stanning i think is really when you follow someone's career closely, not just
enjoy a lot of their music. so most people here would be stones stans. In my
life, besides being a long times stones stan, I have only so far stanned at all
for rih and bob marley. so since she stans for bob, it does kinda make sense.

its actually a good topic for a thread: who else besides the stones do you stan
for? I know there are some Springsteen and Dylan stans on this list, but I
wonder which if any other artists get stanned by people here.

2) you're right, Rih's image is overwhelming, and it won't be easy to overcome
to become a "respected" "mature" artist, so probably she'll take the stones
route, which is to stay disrespected and immature as long as possible.
meanwhile, she has every designer and stylist in the world begging to work with
her. Throwing their best ideas (and clothes) at her. Kate Moss wants to be her
BFF. Georgio Armani co-designs with her! She is in some newspaper every
single day for what she is wearing. The other day she put her hair up and that
was the headline! "Rihanna put her hair in a bun". lol. and not a joke,
that actually happened. so its not like gaga, with an image department cooking
up things, it just rih playing dress-up like any other hot chick her age.

3) me, i actually wish the SH album, or at least some of the cuts, sounded
a bit more like a Damian album than a Stewart/Jagger production. My fantasy
has always been that a new producing team, Damian plus AR, get a shot at
re-doing some of the tracks. Or better yet, some completely new tracks!

Anyway, if they ever do become a real band, they've got not just five
headliners, but all five of them can produce as well. so i would hope they
would take fuller advantage of that.

1) i agree, gumboot. it has gotten totally out of hand. i actually look for
IORR threads that i can somehow twist in my mind to justify a rihanna mention.
but at least, believe it or not, my primary interest in her is musical,
and not how hot or smart she is. at least that's what i keep telling myself.

2) the thing i mentioned above, about stylists throwing themselves at her, well,
a good example just happened. the headline: "rihanna spends 15 thousand pounds
on a haircut". let me tell you something, rihanna didn't spend jackshit on
that haircut. they might've even paid her, to say she spent 15 thou on it.
At the very least it was complimentary. And now every rich retard in London will
rush to the same stylist.

3) Rihanna calls her hair her "n*gga knots". And because of the size of it, she
calls her forehead her "fivehead". she calls her naughty bits "her girl" as in
"my girl's lonely these days". anything else you wanna know, just ask.

Thanks Sway...he was a great reviewer, had a very nice relaxed, unassuming style. He seemed to quite like the album as well. I didn't know Beautiful People was a single...I wonder if he got that right. Did Energy ever make it as a single or did they ever get that video shot?

This is a great review. I'm going to check this guy out on YouTube...And I might even listen to more than the one track I've heard from SH.

I've been afraid to come into this thread. Somehow the whole concept of Superheavy was intimidating - and then seeing it had 53 pages kind of blew my mind. Plus assuming it would be Mick-centric...all of these thoughts rolled together made me feel like I was walking into a biker bar in a tutu...

Have to laugh re LOL - a friend of mine kept sending emails to someone whose dog died - signing off with LOL. Of course, she thought it meant "lots of love"... smoking smiley

It's a great album but it is a matter of taste. This is NOT the Rolling Stones or anything close. But if you like a world vibe/reggae you will probably like this as the songs are strong as are the performances.

Re: SuperHeavy

I think I know what I can do on this thread that might even be helpful...

1) Don't mention Rihanna

2) Try to remember that this SuperHeavy album originated from a jam session that
is over two years old now. SuperHeavy-ish things were already starting to happen
in other pop music at that time, but SH must still be regarded as one of the
pioneers in a worldbeat fusion hiphop dance movement that is conquering the
planet as of now.

3) So since, at least for the moment, there is no new SH music, what I can do for
the SH-curious is every once in a while post something from another band or
solo act that has a bit of an SH vibe to it. Breaking down the sound barriers
between people. Finding common ground. Etc.
