Were the Stones' core fan-base not a little old to be sending the group letters in 1981? I can understand young teenage girls scribbling to Mick and Keith in the 1960's and early 70's, perhaps, but surely they were not attracting too many 12 year-old screamers by the 80's.

No of course not. Anyway just to translate, I was 13 in 1981 and fancied MJ, who is older than my mum. Apologies for the lack of punctuation in my previous post but I am on the bus and it is not easy writing on a tiny keyboard. He was hot in those tight trousers

Sorry if this was already discussed, but I stumbled across this Tumblr page filled with fan mail directed towards the Stones right up until 1981/2. Here's the opening page's statement:
