Two more classics Stones to be released on SACD in September
Posted by: kowalski ()

In September will be released Emotional Rescue and Goats Head Soup on SACD.

Emotional Rescue:

Goats Head Soup:

Like previous releases on SACD they are both from new 2011 DSD masters.
These are said to be flat tranfers from original UK masters.

Previously released with the new 2011 master: Sticky Fingers, Love You Live, It's Only Rock 'n Roll, Dirty Work and Tattoo You.

I couldn't care less. To me, they finished with Exile.
Just my 2 cts. But each his own. Peace.

Couldn't care less either - because I can't afford them. Shame that SACD died in the UK.

If it's any improvement versus the standard 2009 versions,as it should be,I welcome the releases.

There is improvement. No brickwalled sound, flat transfer from original masters, dsd transfer and SACD quality. Hopefully they will soon be released in high definition quality on HDtracks like the 60's catalog...

I'd buy the E.R. SA-CD for "Down in the Hole" alone.

And the US as well. I LOVE the Abkco SACDs. I even bought an SACD player specifically to play them but I'll be damned if I'll pay $70 for a title I've been able to play back in my head for 40 years.

The price on these is certainly amusing.

I have the ABKCO SACD's and while I don't yet have an SACD player, I love them.

Any suggestions for a good player?

I thought SACD was dead. Can you even buy a SACD player?

Fyi,
Onkyo C-S5VL
Not bad.
It is an excellent balance of value for money and performance.

...
Previously released with the new 2011 master: Sticky Fingers, Love You Live, It's Only Rock 'n Roll, Dirty Work and Tattoo You.

I received SF, LYL, TY and DW yesterday on SACD (no hybrid). Delivered by www.jpc.de (Germany).

The price was 50 EUR each (~ $ 71 or GBP 44).

I did not listen to DW yet. All others sound better to me than the CDs. I would not call it a miracle as the original recording material limits the improvement.
On SF I find MT's guitar more present and fuller, "singing" at its best, on LYL the guitars sound sharper and more concise to me, I can hear different parts of Charlie's drums on TY (!).
The hearing experience is totally subjectiv. It is definitely worth some more bucks for the sound and the really luxurious cover (notice: all liner notes in japanese), decide yourself!
I cannot recommend amazon.de for ordering the new Shm-SACDs. The product descriptions are sloppy, the prices high and the release dates are partly wrong. I would not trust them to deliver the SACD while there are Shm-CDs, Shm-SACDs and Hybrid-SACDs of the Rolling Stones. To amazon.de is just all "audio-CD".

I would buy "Still Life" and "Exile On Main Street" at once on SACD. Waiting...

SACD = Super Audio CD
Can read high resolution music files in stereo or surround (ie 5.1). It has a higher dynamic range than CD.

In 2002 all the 60's albums by the Rolling Stones were released on SACD (hybrid format : with a high definition layer and a CD layer so it can be read on any CD palyer).

This is probably a silly question but is there any chance these new updates could include slightly longer versions of any tracks (as was done with "Slave" at one point on a reissue of Tattoo You) or perhaps any bonus material? Such an act would help, at least, justify an inflated price.....

No silly question at all! The above mentioned SACDs do not provide any bonus material. I.e. "Slave" is only 4:56 min as I found out a sec. ago.
Say you'd pay 10 EUR for a "Tattoo You" 2009 remaster CD, then I'd add 10 EUR for the cover and 20 EUR for the improved sound, the rest is pure luxury.

I read in www.stonesforum.de that the IORR Shm-SACD has "Fingerprint File" played 6% slower and "Till the next time..." has 8 sec. longer fade-out, but I have not got it myself.

For Fingerprint File go here: [www.iorr.org]

Time Waits For No One is running out a few seconds longer. This version is until now available on the vinyl sampler TWFNO from 1979.

If my ears were only better! After 30+ years of going to concerts, I am not sure I could here the difference. On bootleg sites people argue over FLAC vs 320 MP3, and I can't hear the difference on 99% of the recordings.

I am assuming it might matter more if the master itself was very clean, with a very wide dynamic range, etc.

Dont waste your money..One of the whole ideas of SACD is 5.1 Surround Sound..You can't get Surround Sound from MONO.

70's Stones are not mono as far I know.
Plus SACD is also about higher resolution and better dynamic range.

It would probably be possible (but not necessarily desirable) to go back to the multitracks and remix to 5.1, just like they did with Sympathy for the Devil.

Thanks for the info Toru...great news.

I'd be interested in how Superheavy does in Japan.

They'll still have to release Some Girls and Undercover after this. I wonder if Some Girls and Exile will include the bonus tracks. I don't think they will, but I've been wrong before...
