Let's boycott HMV Canada
Posted by: DirtyWorks ()

Hello all,

Once again HMV Canada are boycotting the Stones. I went to their store, and there's no Stones CDs as they protest against Stones deal with Best Buy/Future Shop. This is simply pathetic. Let's boycott them and buy our music elsewhere...

Mmm. Sounds like a campaign of some sort against HMV.

You know you might want to be careful. Someone will create a thread claiming you are disrepecting IORR policies.

Oh, by the way. HMV probably has a lot of employees who depend on their jobs and you'll only be hurting these fine folks as a you take a small swipe at the corporate structure of HMV.

So, you know, good luck with your boycott.

No comment re: boycott but just FYI, HMV has protested the Stones limited distribution of Biggest Bang for some time, as they did previously with Forty Flicks. They still have Stones stock in their stores (unless their policy has changed) but they won't display it. You have to ask, and they are very good about going into the back and bringing you what you ask for.

Also, HMV isn't the only retailer to initiate a similar protest.

In my opinion HMV Canada is right and no reason to boycott THEM. I want to buy my albums where I want. And f_uck the Stones if they think they can tell me where to buy their albums. One more time they only thought about the money, not about their fans.

HMV Canada is advocating OUR case.

Not sure how we can boycott them. If they have no Stones stuff, there's nothing to buy ?!

don't know what happened to HMV in N.A....there used to be a great one at 86th and lex and was then replaced by Bestbuy...HMV was more of a DVD/CD store whereas best buy has more to do with electronics

Is the HMV Picadilly & Oxford Street still there?

Lot of retailers seems to be striking exclusive deals with artists (Stones, Garth Brooks, Eagles) and artists are striking deals outside of the traditional retail marketplace to get their work directly in the hands of the public and to get publicity (Prince, Radiohead).

I think that the industry is changing at a pace that is ruffling feathers. I'm more loyal to artists than I am to retailers, frankly.

You know what Dylan once sang: "the carpet, too, is moving under you." Not certain if that is relevant here but I always get my kicks by quoting Bob.

That's not the case here in Montreal, the lady said you have to order it.

Messing with our boys. Heck with them. I will never go into a HMV store. Hold it, I have not been in any record/cd store in years- it is an easy boycott. I do kinda like our neighbors to the north though, and my dad was born in Canada.

Do they sell beer at HMV,I hope not; this could be another cause I fall on my face-again.

Hold it, I was going to boycott long trips to see the stones after the hawaii cancellation- then I traveled to London. Okay, I have no credibility.

It would be tough for me to boycott Canada. Those Egg McMuffins just wouldn't be the same without that slice of Canadian Bacon.

hmv is silly to not carry the stones, they are just losing business.

Exclusive deals are just a part of life these days. Try getting the NFL Sunday Ticket (see all the games) with digital cable. You can't. You need Direct TV. Try getting a Pepsi at McDonalds or a Coke at Taco Bell. It's just a part of life these days.

I think that business wise HMV Canada have a case, but just don't forget that the Best Buy deal allowed us to buy the DVD sets (FL and ABcool smiley at 29.99 USD. Here in France you'll find both at 49.99 euros or even more.

So I won't want to boycott myself.
