I wouldn't like to second-guess the US immigration authorities these days in particular, but bear in mind that there is probably a limit of so many years for collection of the fine. After those years have passed, the authorities won't have the right to collect the fine any more, so it should theoretically be removed from the records (I guess).

I believe it's 7 (seven) years, I too long ago neglected to pay some speeding tickets I got in Houston Texas and on the Intersate 10 somewhere between Texas and California.

I believe they don’t make it a federal issue if you are fined for traffic offences in an US state. I have an unpaid speeding ticket from Florida, but have entered the US through New York, Massachusetts and Georgia since. But Florida police might still have it their files.

This happened in California in 2004, I hope INS or authorities at the airport dont tell me anything, because is Federal Police at the airport?

I didn't mean FBI. INS is a federal institution. But maybe we shouldn't discuss this at all on this site. I actually agree with bv that there are far too many OT posts here.

You might not be able to rent a car in California. Theres got to be some 'legal eagles' that are Stones fans that read this message board. Hopefully you'll get a reply.

You shouldn't have any problem.

7 years unless the law has changed, and that is state authority only. If you come into the States you shouldn't have a problem, unless you land in California. rent a car in another State and if you come to CA, just make sure you don't get a ticket, (but if you do, I know lots of good attorneys here).

just avoid california and you'll be fine man! even there the relevant statute of limitations might kick in if it was eons ago.

.... yeah, please avoid california,, especially the LA/SB area, thanks.

one may want to seek information from a professional for (usually) accurate
advice and valuable options in matters of legal or of medical importance.

Avoid California, we have enough criminals here already.

Funny you should say that, my friend's car was broken into on Sunday, and he has an old beat-up Toyota, what were they thinking?

Have you thought of contacting the nearest American Embassy?
