Just In Time For Xmas
Posted by: tatters ()

I was wondering if anyone can post a comprehensive list of CDs, Box Sets, and DVDs that have been or will be released this holiday season. I'm mainly interested in stuff that would be of interest to a fan of "classic" rock. The new Who CD, the Beatles LOVE, and Neil's Live At The Fillmore are obvious ones. What else should I be on the lookout for?

When I say "classic" rock, I mean people who began their recording careers prior to 1970. For instance, there is a new David Crosby box set which spans his entire career and includes a disc of previously unreleased material. Stuff like that ....

I thought that Billy Idol cover showed him opening a bottle of egg-nog against the table. I see, now, that's it's a piano. I wish he'd gone for the egg-nog idea instead, just to make it perfect.

UK version cover art....
sadly egg-nog, still missing.
but Billy does appear to have had a McCartney-esque facelift, in this one.

Billy Idol was quite cool once upon a time, it's sad when things turn out like this.

..i'm sure it will sell very well - people are suckers for this stuff at this time of year.
Maybe it's time our boys donned their finest tuxes
and brought out such a product.

...together with a Jagger-perfume, and a Keith-aftershave...as long as it sells...
where's that puke-picture again?

Doors box sounds interesting. Also, didn't I hear something about a Robert Plant box set? He put out a double CD "best of", in 2003 I think, that was rather eccentrically compiled. It was heavily concentrated towards the later albums and contained very few cuts from his early disks.

I think an expanded, deluxe version of David Gilmour's On An Island just came out, too.

Regarding all the Billy Idol posts: You guys don't seem to understand what I'm talking about, do you? I'm not talking about Xmas music. I'm talking about great classic rock albums that the industry schedules for an autumn release so they can get the added sales benefit of being people's Xmas lists.

You don't own a thread just because you've started it.
You don't understand what I'm talking about, do you ?

The best Box of all time (in my humble opinion) is that 70's box that Rhino did. Can't remember what it was called, but there are a ton of great songs from one-hit wonders from the weirdest Top-40 decade in pop history. From "Venus" to "Kung Fu Fighting", it's all on there, and the booklet is worth the price of the box itself. Highly recommended.
